Due to the rise of the COVID19 pandemic and the lockdown still applicable to theatres, the film industry has been hit very severely. Many films which were ready have decided to go the OTT way and there are several films which are left with uncertainty. One of the films that was said to go the digital-way was Ajay Devgn starrer Maidaan. However the producer of the film, Boney Kapoor has confirmed today that the film will have a theatrical release.
Maidaan was supposed to release in December if the film was completed. However a large chunk of the movie is left to be shot which are major football matches and since mass-shooting can’t resume so soon, the makers have decided that they will wait until November to begin shooting and make their final product perfect for a big-screen release. Boney Kapoor said that OTT platforms and theatre releases both can co-exist and they don’t mind waiting longer to reach out to the wider audience.
Few weeks back it was reported that the sets of Maidaan had to be dismantled due to the monsoons. Though several discussions are happening for shoots to resume, Maidaan will have to wait a bit more as they will need to build their set again and also to shoot a football match, a lot of people are required and they shall wait for the right time. Let’s hope normalcy returns soon.
