Yet another time Team India’s Test cricketer Ajinkya Rahane has come forward to express his desire of making an ODI comeback. He has at several times shown his interest to again play for India in white-ball cricket. Although he has been dropped from ODIs in 2018 and T20I in 2016. Rahane sees no reason why he was dropped from the team.

India’s Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane has played in 90 ODIs and scored 2962 runs at an average of 35.26. He was dropped from the 50-over format after having a series of low scores against . But before that series, he had scored four consecutive half-centuries against Australia at home.

According to Rahane, he had a decent average and strike rate, which are major reasons for axing the players, before being let go from ODIs. The Mumbaikar has faith in himself that he would make a strong comeback.

“I am hopeful of making a comeback in white-ball cricket. If you see my record before getting dropped in ODIs, it was really good actually. People talk about strike rate and averages. Before getting dropped from 50-over cricket, it was really good. I have faith in myself rather than what people are saying,” said Rahane, in a Zoom call from Dubai.

However, Rahane is a mainstay for India in the Test format. He has, so far, played 65 Tests and scored 4203 runs. The middle-order batsman last played for India in the away Test series against.

The 32-years-old Ajinkya Rahane, who was the captain of Rajasthan Royals in the last IPL season, was traded to Delhi Capitals from RR ahead of the IPL 2020 auction. He would play his maiden IPL season for DC under the captaincy of youngster Shreyas Iyer.

Inquired about his preparation, Rahane mentioned that he would be ready to bat at any given position for the team. However, he believes that he is best while opening the batting.

“We are still in quarantine, so I don’t know what role I am going to play. Once training starts and the communication within the group happen, we will be aware. I have enjoyed opening the batting but it’s up to the team management,” said Rahane, 32.

“If there is a situation where I have to bat at No. 5 and 6, I will do it. That way I can explore a new aspect about my game. Once the role is clear it will help. You need at least need five to six sessions to settle in depending on where in the batting order you are.”he concluded.

Ajinkya Rahane has, so far, featured in 140 IPL matches and scored 3820 runs at an average of 32.93.
