Albert Duraev targeted to make UFC debut vs. Alessio Di Chirico at UFC 267

Photo by Chris Unger/Zuffa LLCAlbert Duraev didn’t want to wait long to have his first UFC assignment following an impressive win on Dana White’s Contender Series this past Tuesday, and he has gotten his wish. Sources close to the situation confirmed to MMA Fighting that a matchup between Duraev and Alessio Di Chirico is being targeted for UFC 267. The card will take place Oct. 30 at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. ESPN was first to report the matchup. Duraev, a now former ACB middleweight champion, earned a UFC contract with a dominant neck crank submission win over Caio Bittencourt at DWCS Season 5, Week 3. “Machete” has won nine straight, finishing eight of those victories, as he looks to make a big splash in the UFC’s 185-pound division. Di Chirico began the year with a stellar head kick knockout win over Joaquin Buckley at January’s UFC Fight Island 7 event, snapping a three-fight losing streak in the process. “Manzo” returned in August at UFC Vegas 35 where he suffered a similar fate at the foot of Abdul Razak Alhassan in just 17 seconds. UFC 267 will feature a pair of world title fights, including Jan Blachowicz defending the light heavyweight title against Glover Teixeira in the main event. Aljamain Sterling will make his first title defense in a rematch against Petr Yan in the bantamweight championship co-main event.

Four fighters released from UFC roster, including Roosevelt Roberts

Roosevelt Roberts (pictured, red gloves) started his UFC career with a 4-1 run, but went winless in his past three | Zuffa LLCFour fighters were let go by the UFC following recent defeats, promotion officials confirmed the news to MMA Fighting on Friday. The list includes Roosevelt Roberts, who shared the cage with names like Jim Miller and Alexander Yakovlev during a nine-fight run in the company. Anderson dos Santos, Drako Rodriguez and Jamey Simmons were also cut from the company roster. Roberts (10-3, 1 NC) signed with the company after finishing Garrett Gross on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2018 and opened his UFC career with four wins in five bouts. However, he went winless in his following three matches versus Miller, Kevin Croom and Ignacio Bahamondes. Dos Santos (21-9), a veteran of the game from Brazil, dropped a couple of decisions to Nad Narimani and Andre Ewell before winning his first in the UFC via submission, tapping Martin Day in November 2020. “Berinja” lost by knockout to Miles Johns this past August, fracturing his leg during the match. Bantamweights Rodriguez (7-3) and Simmons (7-4) leave the UFC without a single victory under the promotion’s banner. Rodriguez, a DWCS alum, lost to Aiemann Zahabi and Vince Morales this year, while Simmons suffered stoppage defeats to Giga Chikadze and Johnny Munoz Jr.
