Andy Serkis Talks Gollum Influence In New ‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ Featurette

Andy Serkis discussed how his portrayal of Gollum influenced Venom: Let There Be Carnage.

In a bit of news that surprised everyone in 2019, it was announced that Andy Serkis would be directing the sequel to Venom. Best known for his performances as a motion-capture artist, Serkis has portrayed iconic characters like Gollum from The Lord of the Rings trilogy, King Kong, and Caesar in the Planet of the Apes reboot trilogy over the last two decades. Serkis has since begun pivoting towards live-action roles, and will next be seen as Alfred Pennyworth in Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Beyond acting, Serkis started off as a second unit director for Peter Jackson for The Hobbit trilogy. After gaining considerable experience behind the camera, Serkis is now set to helm his own superhero franchise.

‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’: New Trailer Shows Crazy Symbiote Action

In a brand new featurette exclusive to Apple TV, Andy Serkis shared his excitement about directing Venom: Let There Be Carnage. In the featurette, fans can see Serkis directing action sequences and other key moments on set. Serkis also discussed how the symbiote CG characters in the film have to look and act realistic, drawing experience from his previous motion-capture work. A brief Stan Lee cameo was also teased in the featurette, and some slick new concept art of Carnage was also debuted. The highlight of the featurette, however, has to be when Serkis broke down some of Venom 2‘s influences, most notably Gollum.

“I’ve spent a considerable amount of my life playing a character with two sides to his personality. There’s common ground there.”

‘What If…?’: Updated Season 1 & 2 Episode Count Revealed

The updated season 1 and 2 episode count for Marvel Studios’ What If…? has been revealed.

One of the most interesting projects coming out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is What If…?, the studio’s first animated series. Set to explore hypothetical scenarios, character arcs, and plotlines within the MCU, the series appears to be another surefire hit for the studio that just can’t seem to miss. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed back in 2019 that the animated series would consist of ten episodes. It has now been revealed that one episode from the series was pushed back to the second season, resulting in nine episodes. Luckily, the second season of the series will also feature nine episodes.

Dave Bautista Was Never Asked To Return As Drax In ‘What If…?’

In a chat with Collider, What If…? executive producer and known Marvel veteran Brad Winderbaum discussed how the change came about.

“We had to push an episode into Season 2. It was just, honestly, like everything else, that was a COVID impact. There was an episode that just wouldn’t hit the completion date, but luckily we do get to see it in the second season of the show.”

Brand Winderbaum continued by teasing the runtime of each episode, revealing that they vary per episode, allowing the storytellers full creative control over each distinctive episode.

“We targeted a half an hour for each episode. Some of them come in a little longer, some of them come in a little shorter. We wanted to tell as many stories as we could and we had a certain budget we had to work with so it felt like that 10-episode — now 9-episode run — was the right quantity.”
