Aston Villa have seen their opening bid for Leon Bailey rejected by Bayer Leverkusen, according to reports.
Villa have already improved their attacking options with the club-record signing of Emi Buendia from Norwich.
But it seems manager Dean Smith isn’t content to sit on that deal and wants a new winger to arrive at Villa Park.
, the man they’re targeting is Bailey and they’ve firmed up their interest by submitting an official offer.
The bid, worth £30m, was knocked back as Leverkusen hold out for a higher fee.
Arsenal were previously in the race for Bailey, who represents Jamaica at international level.
However, the Gunners ended their interest earlier this week after learning about the 23-year-old’s ‘attitude problems’.
remain undeterred and could return with an improved bid in the coming weeks.
They might need to break their transfer record for the second time this summer to sign Bailey, after capturing Buendia for around £35m.
Smith’s side are also working on a move for .
The Englishman helped Norwich to secure an immediate return to the top flight with six goals and seven assists last season.
In May, Norwich chief Stuart Webber was asked about the prospect of selling some of the Canaries’ star players.

“It’s probably going to start with a number three in front of it and that will give us great opportunities to maybe make the whole squad better as well. We’re really relaxed on that front.”
Villa have already improved their squad with the signing of Ashley Young on a free from Inter Milan.
He has returned to the club ten years after leaving for Manchester United in a £16.2m deal.
When asked about the move, Young said: “It feels amazing to be back, it feels like I’ve not left.
“I’m just delighted to be back, seeing some old faces, being back at the training ground, seeing the facilities and how well they’ve grown.
“You can see how much the club has evolved since my time and I’m just ready to get down to work now.”
