Black Widow star Scarlett Johansson was reportedly shocked by Disney’s response to her lawsuit.
Scarlett Johansson sued Disney last week over their hybrid release of , which saw the film premiering day and date on Disney Plus via Premiere Access ($30 USD). In the lawsuit, Johansson claims that Disney breached their agreement with the actress by not wholly releasing the film in theatres, which mired her potential box office earnings. In turn, Disney responded by stating that her lawsuit had no merit, calling it “sad and distressing in its callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.” Disney also publically shared that she had received $20 million for the film thus far.
In response to Disney’s comments, Scarlett Johansson’s representatives issued a statement to The Wrap. In the statement, the representatives state the Black Widow star was “shocked by the tone” of Disney’s comments. It is a pretty damning statement on Disney’s part, as the reference to COVID-19 doesn’t ignore the fact that Johansson’s contract was breached by the multi-billion-dollar company. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is also reportedly angry and embarrassed by the way Disney is choosing to handle the entire situation. Hopefully, both parties can resolve their issues and continue to make movie magic.
