With Suresh Raina pulling out of the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), a section of fans seem to be wondering who will be the new vice-captain for Chennai Super Kings. Last week, the left-handed batsman left the CSK camp in UAE to return to India citing personal reasons. The franchise then confirmed that the batsman has decided to pull out of the entire competition too.

Missing Suresh Raina will be big blow for Super Kings. He is not only one of their main batsmen but also a very important member of the leadership group. Suresh Raina is CSK’s highest run-getter with 4527 runs from 164 IPL games. The Uttar Pradesh left-hander is also the second-highest scorer in IPL history with 5368 runs, second only to Indian skipper Virat Kohli’s 5412 runs.

CSK will now have to do without him this season. The fans, on the other hand, are eager to know who will replace Suresh Raina in the team as the vice-captain. One such fan took to Twitter to ask the question to the franchise on Wednesday. The fan asked the three-time champions: “Leo who is out Vice Captain Now?”

In reply, CSK came with a brilliant reply as they made it clear the franchise is not too worried with the surprising departure of their vice-captain from UAE.

“Why fear when we have a ‘wise captain’?” the franchise said in their social media post, while replying to the question.

Suresh Raina still hopeful of playing IPL:

Meanwhile, Suresh Raina, on Wednesday, stated that he can still return to UAE for IPL 2020. The former India batsman said that he is working out during his quarantine in India. He also denied rumours of rift in the CSK camp and conceded the mandatory isolation period and the Covid-19 concerns did play in his mind.

“I’ve been training even while quarantining here. You never know you might see me in the camp there again,” Raina had told Cricbuzz.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has suffered another setback ahead of this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) as another member of its medical tested positive for the dreaded COVID-19. Alarming situation in UAE:

While UAE was selected as the venue for IPL 2020 after it managed to bring the coronavirus situation in control, the present situation is not at all promising. The cases are rising at an alarming rate in UAE at present. The gulf country on its Covid-19 website informed that 735 new positive cases were diagnosed on Wednesday from a total of 79,623 tests. Since May 27, when the country announced 883 new positive cases, they had significantly flattened the curve.

But in the last few days, there has been a rise in positive cases. UAE football season, supposed to begin on Thursday, has been put off by 4 weeks. IPL 2020 is scheduled to start on September 19 and BCCI definitely face an upheaval task in making sure that the tournament starts on time.
