CPL 2020: BT vs SLZ – Zouks snatch a three-run victory from jaws of defeat

The 19th game of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2020 witnessed a low-scoring thriller between Barbados Tridents (BT) and St Lucia Zouks (SLZ).

BT skipper Jason Holder won the toss and elected to field first. It was the ball which dominated the bat throughout the game as spinners capitalized on the juicy conditions on offer.

Zouks kept losing wickets at regular intervals as Hayden Walsh redeemed himself after the thrashing received last evening at the hands of Kieron Pollard.

Walsh picked up three prized scalps and conceded only 19 in his four-over spell at the economy of 4.8.

Raymon Reifer bagged a couple of wickets in the only over he bowled in the innings. The other bowlers also chipped in wickets at crucial stages.

Zouks crawled towards a total of 92 before getting bundled out in the 18th over.

It looked like an easy couple of points for the Tridents, who desperately needed a win at the start. As it turned out, the Tridents made a meal of an easy run chase and lost the encounter by three runs.

Zouks never lost hope and broke through with wickets at important stages. The Darren Sammy led side constantly applied pressure on the Tridents’ batsmen and made the small target look enormous.

Kesrick Williams (2/12) and Javelle Glenn (2/11) picked up a couple of wickets each, while spinners Mohammad Nabi, Roston Chase and Zahir Khan shared three wickets amongst themselves.

In the end, the Tridents batsmen consumed way too many deliveries, played out their entire quota of 20 overs and still ended three short of the required target.

Zouks stand firm at the second place on the table with 10 points as the Tridents lost their fifth game of the tournament. Meanwhile, Glenn was adjudged as the ‘Player of the Match’ for his fine spell of bowling.

IPL 2020: Mumbai Indians unveil their new jersey in style

Four-time winners of the Indian Premier League (IPL), defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) have unveiled the first look of their jersey for the upcoming edition of the tournament.

The announcement made on Sunday created a substantial amount of buzz among their huge army of followers.

In the teaser released by MI’s Twitter account, India’s first underwater dancer, Hydroman, can be seen dancing underwater to the iconic ‘Aala Re’ anthem.

Even MI skipper, Rohit Sharma, reacted to the post from MI and wrote, “Just saw what @hydroman_333 can do underwater and it’s amazing. @mipaltan, I got an idea!”.

“On it, skipper! @hydroman_333, there’s something coming your way soon,” MI responded to Rohit’s tweet.

The jersey flaunts an aquatic shade of blue along with gold stripes on the shoulders.

“BLUE. GOLD. AALA RE!!! The wait is over. Paltan, here’s our official jersey for #Dream11IPL! #OneFamily #MumbaiIndians #MI #Dream11IPL @hydroman_333 @thesouledstore,” MI captioned their post.

After the completion of self-isolation norms, the MI squad began their training on Saturday. Skipper Rohit also hit the nets during the practice session.

“It feels good firstly just to be out here. Even though it’s only for an hour, but we will take it. It is pretty hot out here, so just making sure that you get use to the conditions, the pitches here and all of that. So it will be nice and easy the first few days,” Rohit stated in the video uploaded by MI’s Twitter handle.

Earlier, MI was scheduled to face-off against arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the tournament opener on September 19.

However, several CSK members have been diagnosed as COVID-19 positive, which extended their quarantine period. Thus, CSK remains unavailable for the high-octane opening clash of the competition.
