Dale Steyn Knew Mohammed Siraj Was Going To Have A Good Test Career As He Brings A Good Attitude To The Game Which Was In Show In Australia Tour

In a column, Dale Steyn analyzed the Indian pace attack. Praising Mohammed Siraj, the South African wrote that he brings a good attitude to the game.

“I think he (Mohammed Siraj) brings a good attitude to the game. That’s another thing we tend to forget when you’re playing in English conditions. It’s not just about where you put the ball but also the attitude you bring, getting in people’s faces, making them play shots they don’t particularly want to play – I think Siraj is somebody who can do that.

“I saw parts of that little bit of fight when he played in Australia, and I immediately knew he was going to have a good Test career. Don’t forget about the attitude of a fast bowler too.”

Mohammed Siraj has played five Tests for India, claiming 16 wickets at an average of 28.25. He played a key role in India’s wins in the Melbourne and Brisbane Tests in the Australian tour picking up a maximum of 13 Test wickets.

The 25-year-old pacer made his debut in the second Test in Melbourne and immediately made his mark in international cricket. Eventually, he ended up as the highest wicket-taker for India with 13 wickets in the Border- Gavaskar Trophy 2020/21. What makes his performance even more praise-worthy was that Mohammed Siraj had lost his father when he was touring Australia for series.

Dale Steyn Compares Shardul Thakur’s Ability To Swing With Tim Southee

Dale Steyn reckons India would have relished playing the pacer in the World Test Championship (WTC) final. But he agreed that that would have come at the cost of another batter or a bowler who could bat better. India went ahead with Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Shami in the WTC final, which they lost to a spirited New Zealand side.

Dale Steyn emphasized fitness being the crucial parameter for Indian pacers to be successful in England. The 38-year-old also praised Shardul Thakur and compared his ability to swing with New Zealand’s Tim Southee’s.

“I like what they (India) have got right now. All those bowlers bring something different to the party. My advice is to stay fit. Five Test matches – that requires a lot of bowling. It’s a lot of wickets to take, and if you’re going to rely on your seamers to do a lot of bowling, you have to stay fit.”

“I like Shardul Thakur. He does swing the ball beautifully, and when he learns how to get the ball that stays straight on batters, that’s when he might find a lot more edges. He’s another guy like Tim Southee who can swing it beautifully. But he needs to learn how to bowl that kind of scrambled ball that just holds the line, and he can find the edges,” Dale Steyn wrote.

Dale Steyn also pointed out and Umesh Yadav’s ability to swing the ball at a good pace. He said that whoever among the two bowls is better in the nets should start in the Tests. The two-Test old Shardul Thakur was mighty impressive in the only longest format game he played in the away series against Australia this year, picking up seven wickets and scoring a half-century in Brisbane.

IPL 2021: 4 franchises looking to sign up Wanindu Hasaranga as a replacement player

Wanindu Hasaranga has been a notable performer for Sri Lanka in their rather dispiriting year. Despite his side’s embarrassing series defeat to West Indies, Bangladesh, England and India, the 24-year-old has shined with both bat and ball on several occasions.

Hasaranga has scored 344 runs so far this year in 11 ODIs and claimed eight wickets at an impressive economy of 4.35. The right-hander has a sparkling record in T20Is ever since making his debut against New Zealand in 2019. He has an economy rate of 6.81, along with an impeccable bowling average of 16.13.

Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan is confident that once Hasaranga plays in the IPL team, he would only flourish further.

“An IPL franchise should look at him [Hasaranga]. But the problem is, if it’s a local player, he walks into the side. But if it’s a foreign player, you have to see which franchise wants a foreign spinner. It’s a tricky thing. They will buy him, but playing him is something that will not be easy for a franchise. Some franchises look mostly at Indian spinners rather than foreign spinners,” Muralitharan was quoted as saying to ESPNcricinfo.

According to media reports, four IPL franchises are interested to rope in Hasaranga for the remainder of IPL 2021. All eight teams are allowed to sign players to replace those who won’t be travelling to the UAE for the marquee event.

If Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) grants Hasaranga permission to participate in the cash-rich league, he may be picked by one of the four teams who have expressed their interest to acquire his services.
