Deep Dasgupta: Done Enough Discussions About Pitch Which Are Expected To Turn In India And Urges To Move On

Ahead of the fourth Test at Ahmedabad, former Indian cricketer, Deep Dasgupta has responded strongly to all the negative criticisms coming from the former England players. Speaking on Sports Today, Deep Dasgupta said that enough discussion has been done over the pitches and one should look forward to the important 4th Test match.

“Enough is enough, let’s move on. We have had enough discussions about the pitch. We are giving Michael Vaughan too much space in the media. Let’s move on, we all know what his views are, we all know the others’ views are.

“We have a very important Test match to look forward to. Let’s just accept how things are going to be, you expect pitches to turn in India let’s just take that as a fact,” Deep Dasgupta told Sports Today.

“Let’s just see how players adapt to it, that’s the beauty of Test cricket. If you want flat pitches, we’ve got white-ball cricket. Test cricket is about testing your abilities, your skillset in various different conditions. That’s how it is. If you don’t like it, too bad then Test cricket is not for you,” he added.

Axar Patel, playing in just his second Test, scalped 11 wickets in the 3rd day-night Test at Ahmedabad to spin a web over the Englishmen. He returned with figures of 6/38 and 5/32 as England was bundled out for 112 and 81 only in the 3rd Test.

Deep Dasgupta: Biggest Challenge Would Be To Be Mentally Ready And Be Fearless For 4th Test

Deep Dasgupta further stressed the fact the batsmen of both teams should be mentally ready to face another trial by spin in the final face-off.

“It’s more of a mental thing than skill. You’re expected to have a certain amount of skill when you are playing at this level. But the biggest challenge would be to be mentally ready for what they’ve had in the last few Tests. Be mentally strong enough and be fearless about what the situations are going to be from tomorrow onwards. Clarity of thought is also very important because you can overcomplicate things by thinking about all this,” Dasgupta said.

Deep Dasgupta urged the batsmen from both India and England to be mentally ready to face another trial by spin in the ongoing fourth Test at Ahmedabad.

In the ongoing series, batsman Rohit Sharma and spin all-rounders Axar Patel, and Ravichandran Ashwin have been standout performers. Left-arm spinner Axar Patel was the Man of the Match after producing a match-haul of 11 for 70. He is on a dream run taking 18 wickets in his first two Tests averaging 9.44. Ravichandran Ashwin, though, is the leading wicket-taker with 24 wickets in 3 Tests.

In the 4th Test, England is placed at 154/5 with Ollie Pope and Daniel Lawrence at the crease. Ben Stokes was dismissed after scoring 55 while skipper and openers Dom Sibley and Zak Crawley were dismissed cheaply for single-digit scores. Mohammed Siraj and Axar Patel picked 2 scalps each while Washington Sundar picked a wicket. Ravichandran Ashwin is wicketless till now.
