Disney Moves ‘Doctor Strange 2’, ‘Thor 4’, And Various Other Marvel Films

Disney is shifting around various Marvel release dates, including Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder.

Disney announced earlier today that multiple films in their upcoming slate would either be delayed or taken off their schedule. Of the projects delayed, a handful of films are from Marvel Studios. The delays are to reportedly allow production teams more time to finish up their final products and mitigate competition.

‘Eternals’: First Official Clip Promises Breathtaking Marvel Action

The first major change in release is Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The first was originally set to hit March 25, kicking off 2022’s Marvel slate. Instead, the Benedict Cumberbatch sequel will now hit cinemas on May 6, taking Thor: Love and Thunder’s release date. The Doctor Strange sequel was originally set to open up a few weeks after Robert Pattinson’s The Batman, so this change allows both films some room to breathe.

Thor: Love and Thunder, which was originally set to kick off the summer movie season in early May, will now hit cinemas on July 8, 2022, replacing the release of Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

The Black Panther sequel, which is still filming, will now open on November 11, hitting cinemas two weeks before Thanksgiving. It replaces the Captain Marvel sequel’s original date.

The Marvels, the direct sequel to Captain Marvel and the Ms. Marvel series, will now open on February 17, 2023.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which will see the return of Kang the Conqueror, is set to hit cinemas on July 28, 2023. It was originally supposed to open in mid-February of that year, a date now occupied by Brie Larson’s second outing as one of Marvel’s most powerful heroes.

An untitled Marvel film was originally slated to open on November 10, 2023, but will now open a week earlier on November 7.

Two untitled Marvel films, set to release on July 28, 2023, and October 6, 2023, have been removed from the schedule.

Disney also shifted the release for the fifth Indiana Jones film, moving it from July 29, 2022, to June 30, 2023, almost a full year. Black Adam is set to open on the Indiana Jones film’s original date, so it’s a smart move that the action-adventure film shifted its release. The film is directed by James Mangold and sees Harrison Ford returning as the famed archeologist.

Here is the synopsis for the next Marvel Studios film Eternals:

“The story takes place across two time periods. One storyline is set in the past when they operated as a formidable team and a close family unit. The second storyline is in the present, when the group has fractured and split apart, content to live among humans, hiding in plain sight. The prevailing threat of the Deviants, which once again threatens the existence of mankind, means the Eternals need to put their differences aside and regroup.”

Chloe Zhao directed Eternals from a script she co-wrote with Patrick Burleigh, Kaz Firpo, and Ryan Firpo. The cast of the Marvel Studios project includes Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Barry Keoghan as Druig, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, Salma Hayek as Ajak, and Angelina Jolie as Thena.

Eternals will hit theaters on November 5, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming MCU film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
