Dortmund CEO bemoans lack of ‘consideration’ for Sancho at Man Utd

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has suggested that it “hurts [his] soul” seeing Jadon Sancho find life difficult at Manchester United.

The winger came close to joining Man United last year, but they could not agree a fee with Dortmund.

Sancho continued to impress for the German outfit last term as he grabbed eight goals and eleven assists from his 26 Bundesliga outings.

The Englishman finally secured his move to this summer. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side paid an initial fee of around £73m to bring him to the Premier League.

The 21-year-old has struggled so far this season, though. He has failed to register a goal or an assist for the Red Devils from his seven appearances across all competitions.

Dortmund CEO Watzke has been speaking about Sancho’s start at Man Utd (as reported by ). He says it “hurts his soul” that he is given “little consideration”:

“I love Jadon. When you see him playing you get tears in your eyes. It hurts my soul that he is given so little consideration.

“I think his problem is that he’s not set in the English national team.”

“This squad, when it’s depleted, still isn’t up there with the best in the Premier League.

“Wan-Bissaka, he’s the best defender in the Premier League in a one vs one situation, but his distribution with the ball, with the ball at his feet he wouldn’t get a game in League Two. When I watch him play, he never looks comfortable with the ball at his feet.

“I don’t feel confident at all, I don’t think he does either. Defensively he’s absolutely outstanding. Harry Maguire the ball back to David De Gea yesterday, he makes mistakes, he made one at Newcastle too.

“They’ve got big problems do Manchester United, I know they’ve started the season well but I think yesterday the cracks started to appear.”

‘Shambles’ – pundits lay into Spurs for falling 3-0 down in NLD

Several pundits have criticised Spurs with them falling 3-0 behind inside the first half against Arsenal in the North London derby at the Emirates.

Ahead of Sunday’s derby, Tottenham Hotspur were without a win in four games across all competitions. They beat Wolves on penalties in midweek after drawing 2-2 in normal time in the Carabao Cup.

They drew 2-2 with Rennes in the Europa Conference League in between being defeated 3-0 by Crystal Palace and Chelsea in the Premier League.

Arsenal went into Sunday’s game with more confidence as they had won three straight games across all competitions.

They started the North London derby brilliantly as they were three goals ahead by the end of the first half.

The Gunners quickly put Spurs on the back foot and they took advantage of their dominance with goals coming from Emile Smith-Rowe, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bukayo Saka.

Match Of The Day presenter Gary Lineker labelled the first half performance as a “shambles”:

Graeme Souness is covering the game for Sky Sports alongside Ledley King and Tony Adams.

Speaking during the first half break, Souness said: “ look ragged. [King and Adams] can look at the centre-backs and see what they should have been doing. For me, I’m looking at the Tottenham midfield. It is non-existent.”

Former Premier League defender Matt Upson is reporting on the game for . He praised Arsenal as he suggested that the body language of both teams has been the “difference”:

“The body language between these two teams is the difference. Ben White’s decisive, aggressive tackle, set the tone of the game.”

Sky Sports commentator Martin Tyler also had a dig at Spurs just as the half time whistle was blown. He said that the derby had only been contested by Arsenal:

“A North London derby fiercely contested by one team.”
