DStv Premiership results
Cape Town City 1 (Ngoma 23′) Stellenbosch FC 2 (De Goede 14′, Du Preez 49′)
Stellies came away as the kings of the Cape after seeing off Cape Town City in Greenpoint on Saturday afternoon.
Marvin de Goede lashed a volleyed shot into the Cape Town City net after a teasing corner wasn’t dealt with by the home side, to give Stellenbosch the lead.
Stellenbosch were the better side early and were perhaps unfortunate not to be further ahead when Aubrey Ngoma produced a magical finish to level matters.
Early in the second half Ashley du Preez, who had been a nuisance to the Cape Town City defence restored Stellies’ lead with another well-taken goal.
Cape Town City 1-2 Stellenbosch FC highlights
Bloemfontein Celtic 1 (Ndwandwe 71′) Maritzburg United 1 (Kutumela 45′)
Maritzburg United couldn’t hold onto an advantage and were their own worst enemies as they allowed Bloem Celtic a share of the points in a dramatic match.
The Team of Choice dominated the first half but looked like they would head into the break with nothing to show for their efforts until Thabiso Kutumela curled a free kick into the left-hand corner of the goal from just outside the box.
Maritzburg United continued to create chances in the second half but failed to kill off the game allowing Celtic to steal in and snatch a point.
Menzi Ndwandwe provided the killer touch that ensured the hosts bagged a point while Maritzburg United finished the game with ten men after Daylon Claasen was sent off in added time.
Chippa United 0 Orlando Pirates 3 (Hotto 39′, Haanub-OG 44′, Motshwari 89′)
Orlando Pirates put themselves back into the title race with a clinical 3-0 win over Chippa United at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
Deon Hotto testes Chippa United goalkeeper Ayanda Mtshali early and signalled the beginning of seige of the Chilli Boys goal.
A defensive error allowed Hotto to pounce just after the half hour mark to give the Sa Robbers the lead.
It was all too easy for Orlando Pirates as Fortune Makaringe found his way through the defense and played square where an under pressure Riaan Hanamub could only help the ball into the net.
While Chippa threatened more in the second period a late goal from Bafana Bafana call-up Ben Motshwari ensured Pirates moved into second place on the table.
