Dutch police find $12 million euros in secret apartment room
Police in the Netherlands have uncovered over $12 million euros found hidden in a secret room.
Police in the Dutch city of Eindhoven say they have discovered 12.5 million euros (AU$21.1 million) in cash in an apartment's hidden room.
The find is the highest amount ever discovered in one place in the Netherlands, police said in a statement, adding that they have arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of money laundering.
The money, which was collected in notes valued between five and 500 euros, weighed a total of 255kg and had to be removed from the scene in a number of large shopping bags.
Investigators also recovered firearms and a money counting machine.
Police said they believe the money to be proceeds from organised crime.
No further details were given about the suspect or the investigation, which is still ongoing.
