Inzamam-ul-Haq: Pakistan Batsmen Must Play Aggressively

Inzamam-ul-Haq, who was a former skipper and chief selector, requested batsmen to play aggressive cricket and team management should ensure that to win against a formidable England. He noted that Pakistan batsmen were being caught at slips since they were employing a defensive approach. He added that bat should be ahead of the leg while meeting the ball.

“Pakistan batsmen were scared of playing their shots. If you look at most of their dismissals, their bat was behind their leg. When you meet the ball, your bat should be ahead of your leg. You are getting caught at slips because you are employing a defensive approach,” Inzamam said on his YouTube channel as quoted by Cricket Pakistan.

“I request the batsmen and team management to play aggressive cricket, in order to beat England. Otherwise, we will be depending on rain to save us in this Test.”

England won the first Test by three wickets despite Pakistan having the upper hand and being ahead in the first innings. But they lost mainly due to Chris Woakes and Jos Buttler’s 139 run sixth-wicket stand which took them home while chasing a stiff target of 277 while reeling at 117/5 at one stage.

Pakistan Ends Rain Curtailed Day Two On 223/9

In the second Test, Pakistan batsmen played defensive cricket but ended the second day on 223/9 thanks to wicket-keeper batsman unbeaten 60 off 116 balls including five boundaries and Abid Ali who was out on 60 off 111 balls including 7 boundaries. Apart from Abid Ali’s 60, Mohammad Rizwan’s unbeaten 60, Babar Azam’s 47 which came off 127 balls and Azhar Ali’s 20, the rest of the batsmen failed to score even two digits.

England are without their star all-rounder Ben Stokes who has opted out of the last two Tests of the ongoing three-match series citing personal reasons. Pacer Jofra Archer is also not playing but his replacement Sam Curran has picked up the key wicket of Abid Ali while Stuart Broad and James Anderson have picked up three wickets each to halt Pakistan’s progress. Chris Woakes has also picked up one wicket.

Pakistan batsmen scored slowly which was evident in the run rate 2.59 as they managed to score 223/9 at stumps on the rain-curtailed second day. Only 86 overs have been possible in the two days. The first day’s play saw only 45.4 overs as Pakistan were on 126/5 at stumps.
