German ministers highlight Boris Johnson’s corona app gaffe
Health minister and digital state secretary highlight error.
BERLIN — Senior German ministers were quick to point out U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s error after he claimed that no country has a functioning coronavirus tracking app.
During the weekly Prime Minister’s Questions session in Westminster on Wednesday, Johnson asked if opposition leader Keir Starmer could “name a single country in the world that has a functional contact-tracing app?”
Starmer replied: “Germany,” referring to the Corona Warn app launched on June 16 and since downloaded nearly 13 million times.
A clip of the exchange was retweeted by German Health Minister Jens Spahn, while State Minister for Digital Dorothee Bár weighed in on Twitter to clarify “that’s the case.”
The U.K. has been forced to postpone its own corona tracking app, originally planned for the start of June.
