Steven Gerrard should wait a few more years before he takes “another job” despite his ongoing success at Rangers, according to Darren Bent.
Gerrard called time on his playing career in November 2016 when he was 36-years-old. This put to an end his two-year spell with LA Galaxy in the MLS.
The Liverpool legend took his first step into management with Rangers ahead of the 2018/19 season. He has done a superb job since he took over. He has 104 wins from his 157 games in charge so far.
Under Gerrard, Rangers are the clear favourites to win the Scottish Premiership this season. They currently sit 18 points clear of Celtic at the top of the table.
The Scottish outfit have also advanced to the last 16 of the Europe League. Rangers beat Royal Antwerp 5-2 at Ibrox in midweek to see them advance via a 9-5 aggregate victory. They face Slavia Prague in the next stage of the competition.
Gerrard will inevitably be among the favourites to become the new Liverpool boss when Jurgen Klopp eventually leaves the club.
Speaking to , Bent suggested that Gerrard should stay at Rangers for a few more years:
“I’d still wait a couple more years and then I’d probably take another job.
“That Liverpool job… he [Gerrard] is an absolute legend of Liverpool Football Club and the Premier League.
“It’s not like the [Frank] Lampard opportunity where that was just perfect. Him and Jody Morris, Jody Morris already knew all the kids they already had, so that role fitted perfectly.
“For Steven Gerrard, there’s time on his hands. I fully understand Chelsea do things differently. If you’re not doing it for six months, you’re gone.
“But he still would have looked at that Lampard situation and gone, ‘maybe not quite yet.’”
