Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune celebrated his 34th birthday in Morocco on Sunday, 20 June.

The veteran shot-shopper wasn’t named in neither Amakhosi’s starting line-up nor among the substitutes for their hard-fought 1-0 CAF Champions League semi-final first leg win over hosts Wydad Athletic Cup on Saturday.

Khune’s future at Naturena has been called into question in recent months and it remains to be seen whether new coach Stuart Baxter elects to retain him – or call time on his 17-year career at the Glamour Boys.

Regardless, Khune put his future concerns to one side when he celebrated his 34th birthday – with a cake appropriately – prior to Kaizer Chiefs heading back to South Africa where they will prepare for the second leg of their semi-final next Saturday.

“We came here to do the business and we did exactly that. We are happy with the result, but we know it’s not yet over. We have the second leg back home in Johannesburg and we will try and finish it off there.

“We’ve done what we came here for, we kept a clean sheet and we wanted a goal or two. The one is okay. They will open up a bit when they come to play us and we will try and punish them. We have another 90 minutes, it will be difficult.

“We were very disciplined and we hope to keep a clean sheet at home as well,” Zwane said on the club’s official website.
