There are two meetings to focus on this Friday, with night racing in Melton and at Albion Park we’ll see a couple of heats of the Jim McNeil Trotters Championship.
Below are the best bets for the respective programs.
Best bet: Race 4, Number 13, Aladdin Sane
This horse is a quirky trotter that can do things wrong, but there is no doubting his ability and he can make it three on end. This horse made a mistake two back but was able to recover and prove too good, then was dominant last time. This horse has to do work in order to win here, but he has shown recently that he can work and still be strong at the end.
Next best: Race 7, Number 6, Tiz A Sizzler
He’s flying and there is no reason to jump off him. This horse had a dominant win last time out when leading and going a very slick last half in cruising to another win. He’s putting together a good record. It will be interesting to see what he does from the wide gate, but ability wise, he is clearly the best horse in the race.
Value: Race 6, Number 8, Mykindoffeeling
This horse will need things to fall into place, but if they do, she can run a positive race at odds. Most of her racing to date has come at Redcliffe, but her two runs at Albion Park have been more than sound. Nicks Pick, the horse drawn directly in front of this mare, has gate speed and should it hold up, Mykindoffeeling lands leaders back and will be dangerous.
Sports opinion delivered daily
Best bet: Race 1, Number 4, Island Blue Chip
On paper, the numerical form isn’t flash reading, but she has shown talent in those outings and this is clearly the weakest race she has contested in her career to date. This horse resumes for Brent Lilley and has trialled well in readiness for her return. Chris Alford will be aggressive, hopefully finding the front and proving too good.
Next best: Race 2, Number 6, Spirited Belle
This horse is short but should be winning. This horse is an Emma Stewart-trained mare who has been excellent since coming from NZ, winning two from three. The latest of those wins was at Ararat when leading throughout and running sharp time relative to the meeting. This horse has enough gate speed to cross and should she lead, then it’s race over.
Value: Race 5, Number 1, The Golden Cross
He is a 1×3 play at the odds. This horse hasn’t been too bad in a couple of runs back from a spell. This horse drew wide last time here and worked home well without being a winning threat. This horse has a much better gate to use this time around and he can hold a forward, hopefully leaders back, and be a knockout chance.
