Ollie Pope Got Injured With No Forthcoming Tests In Sight And Will Return In Time

The timing of the injury though may help him as he will return in time for England’s tours of Sri Lanka and India.

“It is hoped that Pope will return in time for England’s winter tours of Sri Lanka and India starting in the early part of 2021,” the England and Wales Cricket Board said in a statement on Friday.

Ollie Pope occasionally plays as a wicket-keeper right-handed batsman. He is aged 22 and debuted in 2018 against India and has featured in 13 Tests so far where he has accumulated 645 runs averaging 37.94.

Ollie Pope’s Injury An Encore

He has a solitary century and five half-centuries to his name. He was born in Chelsea and plays for Surrey. He made his debut at Lord’s. Besides, Pope notched up his only and first century against South Africa in Port Elizabeth.

Pope is one of the few Test cricketers of the recent generation who have featured for England in Tests following the likes of Dominic Bess, Zak Crawley, Dom Sibley, Rory Burns and Olly Stone being a few.

ECB said he will undergo surgery in the following weeks before he starts rehabilitation with Surrey and England medical teams.

Ollie Pope scored 91 in the third Test against West Indies and 62 in the first innings of the first Test against Pakistan. The innings against Pakistan was a vital one in giving England win. He will not miss any Tests in all probability but have to regain full fitness levels.

The injury proved to be a cruel repeat for Ollie Pope as he had injured the same left shoulder while he played for Surrey last summer. He undertook an MRI scan in London and was assessed by a consultant.

Pope will now undergo surgery in the following couple of weeks before starting a rehabilitation program with both the and England medical teams.
