CSK CEO Had Reservations About Holding Camp But MS Dhoni Insisted Upon

The pre-conditioning camp of CSK in Chennai has come under immense scan. It is being hypothesized that the team members could have contracted the virus during the training camp in Chennai before departure to the UAE to participate in IPL. The six-day long camp was held for the Indian players only. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan had said that he had reservations about holding the camp but CSK skipper MS Dhoni insisted upon it.

“When we announced that the tournament is going to happen, I had reservations about conducting the camp here because of the bio-bubble which we will have to observe,” Viswanathan said in a video published by Super Kings on YouTube on August 26.

“In fact, I even sent a message to him whether it will be worthwhile having a camp of five days before we leave for Dubai. But captain (Dhoni) was crystal clear in his thoughts.”

“He said: ‘No, Sir, we have not played for nearly 4-5 months. All of us need to get together. We should be in Chennai, in a bio-bubble, so that we get used to that when we land in Dubai. And also will help the boys getting in shape.’

“This camp, though we had some reservations, has really helped. And I am very happy we were able to host the camp.”

Harbhajan Singh requested the franchise to allow him to travel to UAE a week later which CSK accepted. Contrary to some media reports, the delay in departure has nothing to do with the health of his mother.

Harbhajan Singh Is An Important Member Of CSK

Harbhajan Singh has not yet announced retirement from international cricket unlike CSK captain MS Dhoni and teammate Suresh Raina despite reaching 40 years of age. He has picked up 417 Test wickets from 103 Tests, 269 wickets from 236 ODIs and 25 wickets in 28 T20Is and had last played for India in a T20I in 2016.

He is a vital member of CSK since 2018 after representing Mumbai Indians from 2008-2017.  CSK is the only team to hold a pre-conditioning camp before their departure for UAE. Among Indian players, Ravindra Jadeja missed the camp which was attended by MS Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh, Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu among others. CSK are expecting South Africans Faf Du Plessis and Lungi Ngidi to join the squad after September 1 while Imran Tahir will join the team after Caribbean Premier League gets over.
