IPL 2020: Harbhajan Singh Likely To Miss Entire Tournament: Report

Just days after seeing Suresh Raina leave UAE, Chennai Super Kings could also lose the services of their veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). With less than 20 remaining for the tournament to start, there is absolutely no clarity over the spinner’s participation in IPL 2020.

Last month, he had missed the pre-season camp in Chennai which was held from August 15 to 20. Surprisingly, he is yet to join the team in UAE and if reports are to be believed then he could skip the entire tournament this year.  As per report in ANI, Harbhajan Singh is yet to officially inform the franchise about his availability but the team is preparing for life without him in IPL 2020.

“He has not sent in any official communication and that is expected by today evening or tomorrow. But the team management has been told to prepare for the scenario wherein they may miss his services,” a source was quoted as saying by the news outlet.

CSK have already lost the services of their all-time leading run-scorer Raina. Last week, the southpaw sensationally decided to leave the team camp in UAE to return to India citing personal reasons. The franchise later confirmed that Raina had decided to give the entire tournament a miss. Raina has been an integral part of the team since the inaugural season in 2008.

CSK have suffered other setbacks too. Days after they landed in UAE, 13 of their members including 2 players – Deepak Chahar, Ruturaj Gaikwad – had tested positive for COVID-19. Fortunately, no other player or non-playing member tested positive when the tests were done on Tuesday. The team is likely to start training on Friday.

IPL 2020 would be played across three formats – Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. The tournament is scheduled to start on September 19 while the final is on November 10.
