IPL 2020 Will Be Viewed On Star Sports Network

Vivo pulled out as title sponsor after which Dream11 was announced as title sponsor as BCCI suffered huge losses. The 13th edition of IPL will be shown on Star TV network as their chairman Uday Shankar predicts it will deliver more than 500 million audiences in India alone.

“Crowds will watch it on television…they (the broadcasters) are actually expecting the highest rating of IPL this season because they believe if (people) don’t turn up in the ground, they will be actually watching on their television sets,” Ganguly said while delivering an online lecture as part of the ‘Symbiosis Golden Jubilee Lecture Series’.

IPL 2020 Is Important To Resume Normalcy: Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly also said that holding the IPL 2020 was important to ensure the return of normalcy amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, which has caused disruption and wreaked havoc in every sphere of daily life.

Asked how cricketers would feel about playing in front of empty stands, Ganguly said, “…because of the COVID and infection, you don’t want people to be too close to each other, but very soon you will see there will be 30 per cent people in the ground with social distancing.”

“They are properly tested and allowed to enter the ground. But I think that is going to happen over a period of time,” he added referring to the possibility of IPL’s later matches being opened for fans depending on the COVID-19 situation. It is actually an effort to bring life back to normal,” he asserted.

He said the present situation will be overcome soon as people have come out from wars and bugs previously and restored normalcy.

“This is just a virus which is already weakening and we will hopefully get past it. There have been wars, which people have come out from, there have been other bugs which people have come out from over the years,” Sourav Ganguly stated.

IPL 2020 was supposed to start from March 29 but was moved abroad after being postponed to the Emirates where it will commence from 19th of September.
