James Cameron Confident ‘Avatar’ Sequel Won’t Be Delayed Due To Coronavirus

James Cameron is confident that the Avatar sequel set to his cinemas in 2021 won’t be delayed.

Like every facet of the entertainment industry, James Cameron’s Avatar films are being put on hold because of the coronavirus pandemic that has spread throughout the world. The director, currently bunkered down in his Malibu home, was supposed to be in New Zealand shooting footage for the highly anticipated Avatar sequels but, as expected, the ongoing pandemic caused those plans to be put on hold. It may all just seem like bad luck for Cameron, who has been trying his best to bring a bevy of Avatar sequels to theatres for over a decade but the director is confident that the second film in the franchise won’t be delayed.

Massive Budget For James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ Sequels Reportedly Revealed

In a recent interview with Empire, James Cameron brought to light how much of a great job New Zealand is doing in controlling the ongoing situation and that he expects to be back there for shooting soon. If all goes well, he believes that the Avatar sequel will be ready to be seen in cinemas in the December of 2021.

“On the bright side, New Zealand seems to have been very effective in controlling the virus and their goal is not mitigation, but eradication, which they believe that they can do with aggressive contact tracing and testing. So there’s a very good chance that our shoot might be delayed a couple of months, but we can still do it. So that’s good news.”

Despite much of the lengthy VFX work required for the Avatar sequel being conducted at home, James Cameron explained that he’s still clamouring to get back to work with the virtual cameras being used on the films.

“We’ve got everybody – everybody at Weta Digital and Lightstorm – working from home to the extent that that is possible. But my work is on the stage doing the virtual cameras and so on, so I can do a bit of editing, but it’s not great for me.”

James Cameron has been working diligently on the Avatar sequels, of which there are 4, and seems adamant that the ongoing situation is merely a bump in the road for his large, expansive production. The Avatar sequels are set to explore the rest of Pandora’s lush jungles and deep oceans, with most of the cast from the original film returning.

Here is the official synopsis for the first Avatar film:

AVATAR takes us to a spectacular world beyond imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on an epic adventure, ultimately fighting to save the alien world he has learned to call home. James Cameron, the Oscar-winning director of Titanic, first conceived the film 15 years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not exist yet. Now, after four years of production, AVATAR, a live action film with a new generation of special effects, delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film disappears into the emotion of the characters and the sweep of the story.

Avatar 2 is set to his cinemas on December 17, 2021. Stay tuned for the latest news surrounding James Cameron’s upcoming Avatar sequels and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for new video content!

DC Universe’s ‘Swamp Thing’ Heading To The CW

DC Universe’s cancelled Swamp Thing will be making its way over to The CW for the network’s fall lineup.

One of the most beloved series to come out of DC’s pantheon of characters was Swamp Thing, which made its debut on DC Universe, was cancelled just days after it made its premiere. In just ten episodes, Swamp Thing became beloved by thousands of DC fans and even won the love of critics. Praised for its fantastic atmosphere and heavy dose of scares, Swamp Thing‘s cancellation led many fans bewildered at the decision. For those who never got the chance to see the DC Universe show, the horror series will be heading to The CW for the network’s fall lineup.

‘Swamp Thing’ BTS Video Offers A Great Look At Kevin Durand’s Floronic Man

Deadline reports that The CW, the home for DC’s Arrowverse, will be acquiring the DC Universe show to add more weight to its upcoming fall lineup. This decision isn’t odd for The CW as they’ve previously acquired the rights to air other shows during the summer. In fact, Swamp Thing himself appeared in The CW’s Arrowverse crossover Crisis On Infinite Earths earlier this year, further solidifying the relationship between the show and the network.

Fans might be wondering if this means that there will be new Swamp Thing episodes coming out of The CW, which certainly isn’t the case, as the network will only be airing the episodes that can be found on DC Universe. At this current junction, no airdate or time has been announced for the DC series for its network premiere.
