Springbok great Kobus Wiese had the sporting world worried when news broke that he had suffered a massive heart attack earlier in the week.

The 1995 Rugby World Cup-winning second-rower was rushed to Mediclinic’s Panorama hospital in Cape Town on Tuesday night after feeling unwell.

Following a series of tests, a stent was inserted to help alleviate a narrowed artery in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The 56-year-old is being closely monitored.

One of the many well wishes to flood in after the news broke was from All Blacks legend Sean Fitzpatrick.

Wiese and Fitzpatrick dueled on several occasions on the rugby field, most notably in the 1995 World Cup final at Ellis Park.

Fitzpatrick took to Twitter to write, “@4KobusWiese get well my friend. Our thoughts are with you. Kia Kaha”

Kobus Wiese replied shortly thereafter with, “Thank you very much Fitzy, much appreciated my friend. Hope you are well.”

To which Fitzpatrick responded, “All good mate. You take care.”

Kobus Wiese played 18 Tests for the Springboks and 128 matches for Transvaal / Golden Lions during his career.
