Man Utd offer update on Ole’s future to ‘circling’ agents

Manchester United have delivered a clear message to ‘circling’ agents amid mounting pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: the Norwegian will not be sacked.

, who claim that – in the wake of the recent poor form – the club have been inundated with overtures from intermediaries, who have offered their services in finding a replacement.

United, however, have rebuffed these approaches, claiming Solskjaer’s job is safe – at least for the time being.

The Red Devils host Liverpool on Sunday and a defeat to Jurgen Klopp’s side, who are unbeaten this season, would amplify the clamour for his departure. United have lost four of their last eight games in all competitions, leading many to question whether Solskjaer possesses the tactical nous to challenge for silverware.

Expectations are high after a blockbuster summer of recruitment which saw five-time Ballon d’Or winner make his return to the club and so far, Solskjaer has failed to deliver on them.

The board, though, have insisted that his position is not under threat, with the ex-striker able to count on after leading the club to a second-place finish last season.

United are four points adrift of Liverpool and eight shy of Chelsea, but Solskjaer refused to brand Sunday’s opponents as title favourites, claiming “it’s too early” for that sort of talk.

While United have made a slow start to the season, his team retain hope of “catching up” with Liverpool.

“This early you can’t talk about titles or anything, we are chasing them, Liverpool are one of the teams we are trying to catch up on, in the last four years, even though last season we were ahead of them maybe because of bad luck with injuries,” he said.

“We still know we have to improve to get up to the level of their last four years. We have absolutely no right to go on the pitch against any team in the Premier League thinking that we can give less than our best to win the game.

“We have not won the league in the last three of four years, you can understand City or Liverpool to walk onto the pitch and think quality is enough, we have players to keep on improving, developing.”

Dawson: Leicester must ‘break the bank’ to keep Man Utd target

Former Tottenham defender Michael Dawson believes Leicester City must “break the bank” to keep Youri Tielemans at the club.

Tielemans has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United in recent months, with Liverpool reportedly interested as well.

such as Juventus, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich and Chelsea in the mix for the 24-year-old’s signature.

The Belgium midfielder is out of contract at the King Power Stadium in 2023, with the Foxes extremely keen to extend his contract.

He has been a crucial player for Leicester since joining in 2019, helping them to back-to-back fifth-place finishes in the Premier League.

And Dawson thinks they should do everything in their power to keep Tielemans at the club.

“If he really wants to stay, they will chuck the money at him,” Dawson told Sky Sports.

“If the price is right, they will sell. If he wants to stay, he can stay. They will give him big money, they have big money. They will have to break the bank. He is an incredible talent, incredible.”

Rodgers said: “There’s no drama with it. It’s just the reality of the situation.

“It only becomes a problem to me if there’s a lack of commitment or there’s not the same intensity but that’s never been the case with Youri.

“It’s natural, he is a very talented player who is in discussions with the club and we’ll see where that takes us.

“I have no idea (why it is dragging on), I concentrate on the football and making sure he is the best player he can be, giving him the support, environment and culture to be that.

“He is a top-class professional and a joy to work with and while he is here – for however long that is – he will always give and I will always give the best to his development.”

Another Leicester man that has been linked with a move away is defender Wesley Fofana.

reportedly like the Frenchman, who could be one of Newcastle’s first signings under their new Saudi owners.
