SASSA: Unclaimed R350 grants MUST be collected before 30 November or they will be forfeited

Use it or lose it. SASSA said unclaimed R350 grants from the first cycle will be forfeited to the state unless they are collected before 30 November.

SASSA: Unclaimed R350 grants MUST be collected before 30 November or they will be forfeited

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is giving approved beneficiaries who could not collect their special COVID-19 SRD grants from the first round another chance to pick up their unclaimed funds.

The unclaimed R350 grants from the first round – when the government reintroduced the vital social assistance – were due to be forfeited on 31 August 2021.

SASSA URGES PUBLIC TO COLLECT UNCLAIMED GRANTS

SASSA said Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu made the extension possible through the recently published Ministerial Directions.

Beneficiaries who did not collect their R350 grants now have until 30 November 2021 to pick up the unclaimed funds.

“Payments not withdrawn by any beneficiary by the end of November 2021 will be forfeited to the State to fund other government priorities,” said SASSA.

SASSA CEO Busisiwe Memela-Khambula described the extension as “an early Christmas” for the first cycle’ approved beneficiaries who could not claim their funds at the Post Office.

“We welcome this decision which was brought about by the visionary leadership of Minister Lindiwe Zulu,” said Memela-Khambula.

“We also acknowledge that this special grant goes a long way in assisting the most vulnerable in society.”

Memela-Khambula urged approved beneficiaries to collect their unclaimed funds from Post Offices as soon as possible.

“If you used somebody else’s cellphone to apply, please check if they received your SMS in July 2021,” said the SASSA CEO ahead of the initial expiry date earlier this year.

Beneficiaries can also check if their names are on the list available on the Agency’s website – www.sassa.gov.za – if they are unsure before proceeding to collect their grants.

Alternatively, enquiries can be made via telephone at 0800-60-10-11.
