Matt Damon calls Leo Varadkar ‘a badass’
Hollywood star has been spending lockdown in Dublin.
Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar’s return to work as a medical practitioner during the coronavirus crisis has attracted praise from a Hollywood star.
Matt Damon has been spending his lockdown in the Dublin suburb of Dalkey, where he was shooting a movie before the pandemic struck. He told Irish radio station Spin 1038 on Wednesday: “You’ve got a president who just goes to the hospital and starts working. I mean what a badass, it’s just on another level.”
Varadkar, who worked as a doctor before going into politics, re-registered as a medical practitioner last month and offered to work one session per week in areas that are within his scope of expertise.
Damon also said he was “a little worried” about eventually returning to Los Angeles.
“We don’t have adequate testing so there’s going to be another surge it looks like back home,” he said. “There’s all these areas in America that it hadn’t really penetrated and now, y’know.”
The star also confirmed that his eldest daughter, who is not with him in Ireland, had contracted COVID-19 but “got through it fine.”
