Natural remedies: Treat cold and flu symptoms at home this winter

Especially considering the times we are living in, treating illness at home seems to be the best way. Avoiding doctors’ rooms and contact with other people, especially during the pandemic, are important steps to take, but what if you have flu?
Some of the best remedies are those that can be made at home using ingredients like onion, garlic, ginger, cayenne pepper, turmeric, lemon and honey. Even if the taste of the mixture is awful, the results are what matter.
You should feel a difference after a day of using this mixture.
1 litre of water
1 large onion, diced
5 cloves of garlic
4 tablespoons of fresh grated ginger
3 teaspoons of turmeric powder
Juice of 2 ripe lemons
1 and a half teaspoons of cayenne pepper
3 tablespoons of honey
Put the water in a large pot and add your onion, garlic, ginger, turmeric powder and cayenne pepper. Boil the mixture for 15 minutes, then add your lemon juice and honey. Drink whilst it’s hot.
Health benefits of natural products
Garlic has compounds that help the immune system fight germs. Garlic is regarded as a natural antibiotic.
Onions contain antioxidants and compounds that fight inflammation.
Turmeric has high antioxidant and anti-bacterial properties. It assists in reducing the symptoms of cold and flu.
Cayenne pepper is effective in reducing pain. Cayenne pepper increases blood circulation which hastens the healing process. It is also stimulating and warming which is a pleasant remedy when one is suffering from a cough and/or cold.
Honey helps soothe a sore throat and can even reduce irritating coughs.
Lemons are loaded with vitamin C, which is known to support the body’s natural defenses. Lemon (and lime) juice is reported to decrease the strength of the cold and flu virus in the body and reduce phlegm.
