Newcastle United show ‘serious interest’ in Spurs defender

Newcastle United are showing “serious interest” in Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers, according to reports.

The defender joined Spurs when he was just eleven years old, but he is yet to make his Premier League debut for the Londoners. He did play four times for them in 2016/17 in cup competitions, though.

Since 2017, Carter-Vickers has had six separate loan spells away from Tottenham in the Championship. He has played for the likes of Sheffield United, Swansea City and Stoke City.

Carter-Vickers spent the 2020/21 campaign with AFC Bournemouth. He featured 26 times for them across all competitions as the Cherries missed out on promotion back to the Premier League.

The 23-year-old may leave Spurs this summer according to . They report that Newcastle are seriously interested in the defender.

The United States international is also attracting the interest of Celtic and several MLS sides. They add that Carter-Vickers wishes to remain in Europe to “continue his development”.

The centre-back only has 12 months remaining on his current contract with .

Elsewhere, Kevin Phillips has been speaking on‘s future with . He would be “surprised”

“It won’t happen now, which is huge for Tottenham.

“Guardiola has already come out and said that’s too much for Man City to pay. So I’d be surprised now if Kane does end up going to Man City.

“They can afford it but he’s not going to be an asset that in four or five years you get your money back for him. So you can sort of write that money off.

“Guardiola’s has already shown that he’s not fussed about playing with an out-and-out striker.

“But Danny Ings is obviously a much cheaper option. Would he give you the goals that Harry Kane would? No, but he’s a good player and he’s shown what he can do with Southampton.

“If he was to go to Man City then he’d get more chances. He’s a goalscorer and he works his socks off. We know City like to press and he can do that.“

‘Topsy turvy’ Gray one of three ‘real bargains’ for Everton – ex-Prem boss

According to Alex McLeish. Everton have been getting some “real bargains” in the transfer market so far, and the “topsy turvy” Demarai Gray is included in them.

The Toffees are now managed by former Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez. They have been busy in the transfer market over the past few days.

They have expressed interest in , but they have added two players to their squad on free transfers.

They are also close to signing Bayer Leverkusen winger Gray,

The Englishman spent five years at Leicester City before he made the move to the Bundesliga in January. He got one goal and two assists from his 12 outings for the German outfit.

Former Aston Villa boss McLeish has spoken about Gray with . He believes that the attacker must show “consistency” for :

“It’s been a little bit topsy turvy for Demarai.

“The Leicester thing didn’t quite work out. At £1.7million, these are real bargains Everton are getting.

“It’s really strange there’s not a top-dollar signing. I’m going to talk from the perspective of Everton fans.

“They might think: ‘Wait a minute. We can’t say every signing’s going to be an inspirational acquisition.’

“I think the experience they have got in Andros and Demarai, is really good. They’re players who know their way about Premier League pitches.

“Demarai has still got to show he’s got that consistency.

“It will be an interesting signing to see how he can break through into that Everton first XI.”

Earlier this week,

“I’m just surprised it’s only Everton in the running. We’ve seen the ability he has.

“Although he struggled at Leicester, £1.5million is next to nothing for a player who is only 25.

“He is also yet to enjoy his best years of football. He’s been around the Premier League for many years now.

“This signing could really excite the Evertonians if he can get going and show more of the quality he has. The service he will provide for [Dominic] Calvert-Lewin will be fantastic.“
