One dead, four missing after boat capsizes on Vaal River
The incident happened near the Spider Valley Road.
Five men, in their 30s, are believed to have drowned after their boat capsized on the Vaal River Saturday afternoon.
One body has been recovered and four are still missing.
Metro EMS declared the man dead on arrival.
Two people, a man and a woman, survived with minor injuries.
ER24 paramedics said they were on the scene at 17:50 along with the South African Police Services and Metro EMS.
One of the two survivors explained that the boat was taking on water when it capsized.
SAPS officers were waiting on rescue divers late afternoon to begin the search and recovery operation.
Jetski and speedboat crash
In a separate incident, also on the Vaal, a 41-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man both suffered critical injuries following a collision between a Jetski and a speedboat at the Vaal Marina earlier Saturday. They were both on the speedboat when the crash occurred.
The injured pair had been brought to shore by bystanders from another boat.
The woman was found to have suffered a head injury, while the man suffered multiple injuries. Both required Advanced Life Support interventions and were flown by medical helicopter to a private hospital for further treatment.
Two others on the speedboat sustained minor injuries, while the man on the Jetski was unharmed.
