A report has claimed that Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer held a ‘meeting’ with Donny van de Beek before their recent victory over Fulham.
The Old Trafford giants swooped to sign the highly-rated 23-year-old from Ajax for an initial 39 million euros (£34.1m), but things have not gone as smoothly as the Holland international had expected.
While Van De Beek has made 22 appearances in all competitions, the majority have come from the bench and the midfielder has so far only made two Premier League starts.
The summer arrival made his tenth start in all competitions against Liverpool in y amid fresh background talk about his happiness at Man Utd.
He was taken off with 24 minutes left against the Reds after failing again to make a significant impact on the game.
And a report on Monday in The Athletic has claimed that ‘Solskjaer talked to Van de Beek before the midweek trip to Fulham, providing clarity on the situation and assuring him that opportunities would come’.
On the ‘meeting’ the report added:
‘The conversation is thought to have been short but positive and left Van de Beek, who signed a contract until the summer of 2025, under the impression that his game time will increase as the season goes on.
‘It has been made clear to the Holland international that United have faith in him and there is no chance of a loan or permanent departure this month. He has not considered either of those options anyway.’
The future of Paul Pogba could have a huge bearing on how Van de Beek’s playing time evolves going forward and the Dutchman ‘will expect his involvement to be much higher in 2021-22’.
