Report reveals two reasons why Man Utd won’t sign €90m man

Man Utd won’t sign Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele this summer despite a deal for Jadon Sancho falling through, according to a report in Spain.

Sporting director Michael Zorc is now insisting Sancho will remain in Germany, but  despite missing Borussia Dortmund’s deadline to strike a deal for the England international.

While personal terms have reportedly been agreed between Sancho and United, Dortmund have stuck by their £108m valuation of the 20-year-old – with Man Utd understood to believe the figure to be too high given the financial implications of the coronavirus crisis.

With that deal on hold, that the Red Devils have turned to Barcelona’s Dembele as a possible alternative to Sancho with ‘informal talks’ taking place between Man Utd and and the Catalan giants over the winger.

Barca are ‘open to offers’ and ‘an initial season-long loan with an obligation to buy’ has been mooted.

However, Spanish publication (via Sport Witness) claim that those reports are wide of the mark as Man Utd have ‘not shown interest’ in Dembele.

The report does add that they would allow Dembele to leave on loan with a mandatory option to buy the player, with Barca ‘asking €90m’ for the Frenchman.

But the asking price of €90m, plus his questionable injury record, means that the Red Devils will look elsewhere for alternatives to Sancho.

Meanwhile, Paul Scholes recently urged Man Utd to “go that extra mile” in their pursuit of Sancho.

“They’re just after a bit more money,’ Scholes told BT Sport.

“He looks a brilliant player and I think he’ll improve any team in world football with his assists and his goals.

“United were desperate for Haaland as well and they didn’t quite go that extra mile to pay the money.

“Will they do it for Sancho? I think they will, if Ole desperately wants him they’ll get him.”

Watford demand club-record fee from Liverpool for winger

Watford have told Liverpool they must stump up at least £40m to take Ismaila Sarr to Anfield this summer, according to reports.

Last week the  claimed that the Reds were one of a number of clubs keen on the 22-year-old, while they added that Sarr’s respect for Liverpool forward Sadio Mane could prove to be a big lure.

“Mane is not only a Senegal team-mate of mine but he is my inspiration and idol,” Sarr said previously.

“It will be perfect for me to play against him again. For me he is the best player in the world. For sure, the best African player in Europe.

“He’s our national team leader but he’s also a nice guy and I love him.”

And now the claims that the Hornets ‘are ready to demand a club-record fee of over £40million for’ Sarr with Liverpool one of the main interested parties.

The Senegal international has been scouted by clubs from Spain and Germany, while Crystal Palace and Wolves are also credited with interest.

Watford will not let Sarr go on the cheap this summer and they ‘will demand a fee in excess of the record £40m Everton paid for Richarlison in 2018’.

The Premier League side forked out a sizeable £30m to bring Sarr to England from French club Rennes last summer and his performances this season have only increased his value.

With four years left on his contract at Vicarage Road, the Hornets are in a good position to negotiate a high sum despite relegation from the Premier League.

‘Liverpool are emerging as frontrunners to sign Sarr’ with the winger fitting ‘the profile of player Jurgen Klopp is after’ this summer.

The Evening Standard adds that Sarr ‘would be keen on a move to Liverpool’ with a transfer to Anfield proving ‘particularly attractive given it would allow him to play alongside his hero’, .
