Former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson claims Nuno Espirito Santo “had no say” in summer recruitment “judging by his team selection against Arsenal”.
after Spurs’ manager search had seen them reportedly come close to appointing a number of different managers.
Brendan Rodgers, Graham Potter, Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca and Gennaro Gattuso are just a few of the names heavily linked with the job in north London.
They eventually appointed Nuno after exhausting other options and now the former Wolves boss is already under pressure this season.
Tottenham got off to a great start, winning their first three Premier League matches of the season, but they have now lost their last three, .
Spurs brought in Pierluigi Gollini, Bryan Gil, Cristian Romero, Pape Matar Sarr and Emerson Royal in the summer transfer window but Robinson doesn’t think Nuno had a say in any of the transfers.
“Nuno wasn’t first choice and judging by his team selection against Arsenal he had no say over the players brought in over the summer,” .
“For me, Romero plays. Why he didn’t play [in the north London derby] I don’t know.
“The same applies to Gil. He has been their best player attacking-wise so I would’ve started him as well.
“There is a lot to come out of Tottenham this week. There is a lot of unrest in the team and at the club, and the performance at the weekend epitomised that. There is a fundamental problem at the club at the moment.”
Tottenham boss Nuno took full responsibility for their north London derby defeat to Arsenal and admitted that his “game plan didn’t work out”.
“A lot of things went wrong, starting with decisions that I made,” Nuno said. “It’s not easy to expand, so I just ask for a bit of respect if I don’t go too much into it.
“The game plan didn’t work out. I’m very honest. If the game plan didn’t work out the way you wanted it to work out, it’s because you didn’t decide it well.
“I decided bad. Didn’t make the right decisions. And I refuse to go much further than that.“It’s my responsibility. All I have to say, I’ll say it to the players among us. Because us (we) must solve the problem.”
