Robinson claims Nuno ‘had no say’ in Tottenham recruitment

Former Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson claims Nuno Espirito Santo “had no say” in summer recruitment “judging by his team selection against Arsenal”.

after Spurs’ manager search had seen them reportedly come close to appointing a number of different managers.

Brendan Rodgers, Graham Potter, Antonio Conte, Paulo Fonseca and Gennaro Gattuso are just a few of the names heavily linked with the job in north London.

They eventually appointed Nuno after exhausting other options and now the former Wolves boss is already under pressure this season.

Tottenham got off to a great start, winning their first three Premier League matches of the season, but they have now lost their last three, .

Spurs brought in Pierluigi Gollini, Bryan Gil, Cristian Romero, Pape Matar Sarr and Emerson Royal in the summer transfer window but Robinson doesn’t think Nuno had a say in any of the transfers.

“Nuno wasn’t first choice and judging by his team selection against Arsenal he had no say over the players brought in over the summer,” .

“For me, Romero plays. Why he didn’t play [in the north London derby] I don’t know.

“The same applies to Gil. He has been their best player attacking-wise so I would’ve started him as well.

“There is a lot to come out of Tottenham this week. There is a lot of unrest in the team and at the club, and the performance at the weekend epitomised that. There is a fundamental problem at the club at the moment.”

Tottenham boss Nuno took full responsibility for their north London derby defeat to Arsenal and admitted that his “game plan didn’t work out”.

“A lot of things went wrong, starting with decisions that I made,” Nuno said. “It’s not easy to expand, so I just ask for a bit of respect if I don’t go too much into it.

“The game plan didn’t work out. I’m very honest. If the game plan didn’t work out the way you wanted it to work out, it’s because you didn’t decide it well.

“I decided bad. Didn’t make the right decisions. And I refuse to go much further than that.“It’s my responsibility. All I have to say, I’ll say it to the players among us. Because us (we) must solve the problem.”

Prem clubs want pitch-side interviews scrapped after Santo abuse in NLD

Premier League clubs and TV bosses want pitch-side interviews scrapped after Nuno Espirito Santo was abused by Arsenal fans after the North London derby, according to reports.

Under Santo, Spurs were beaten 3-1 in the derby against their arch-rivals. thanks to goals from Emile Smith Rowe, Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang and Bukayo Saka.

Heung-Min Son got a goal back for in the second half as they were convincingly beaten.

Santo conducted his post-match interview pitch-side after the derby. During this, he was abused by celebratory Gunners fans in the background.

are reporting that this has led to Premier League clubs and TV bosses attempting to scrap the format of these interviews.

These were introduced in an attempt to limit the spread of Covid-19. The report adds that the bosses fear that the safety of players and managers could be under threat during these interviews.

“From his first five games this season, 381 minutes, zero goals in the Premier League, zero assists, six shots in five games, four key passes in open play, dribbles completed four. His touches in the box, I look at his heatmap is everywhere but not in the opposing penalty box.

“He’s so far removed from the that we know. This guy has proven that he’s a mad marksman. He scores goals.

“If you judge him on just that, he’s nowhere near the numbers, nowhere near the input, nowhere near the actual involvement in the team’s play at all.

“Is it the effects of the summer? In terms of captaining England in the summer but no one else has really got a hangover who’s integral in their team really.

“Is it the actual saga of the transfer? That has been mentally but physically draining as well. Or is it just him saying ‘this isn’t me’. I don’t believe he’s that unprofessional to down tools I don’t agree with that narrative.

“Football players want to play they want to be judged, they’ve got egos, they want it massaged and they want to be the man and I think he’s no different.

“So I just feel this is an effect (of the failed transfer), he’s disheartened, he feels let down I would imagine, he feels unhappy about having to stay at Spurs right now and his performances are reflecting that.”
