Senatla suspension forces Stormers to shuffle

The Stormers have been forced to make changes for the PRO14 Rainbow Cup SA encounter with the Bulls at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.

Leolin Zas and Sergeal Petersen start on the wings, with Seabelo Senatla suspended.

Stormers shuffle the pack

Hooker Bongi Mbonambi starts in the only change to the front row, while David Meihuizen is at lock in place of JD Schickerling who injured his ankle against the Cell C Sharks last week.

Flank Nama Xaba also picked up an ankle injury at training this week and has been replaced by Marcel Theunissen, with Evan Roos at No.8 and Willie Engelbrecht among the replacements this week.

Herschel Jantjies injured

Scrumhalf Herschel Jantjies has not recovered from a quad contusion in time, so Godlen Masimla will link up at halfback with Abner van Reenen, who is in for Kade Wolhuter after the young flyhalf ruptured knee ligaments (ACL) last week.

Dan du Plessis starts at outside centre, with Ruhan Nel having joined the Springbok Sevens team.

Stormers Head Coach John Dobson said that despite the forced changes, there is a lot to look forward to from a talented side this weekend.

“Many of the players coming in impressed in the preparation matches and will relish the opportunity to prove themselves in a big game such as this.

“We are excited to see what the new combinations can offer alongside the senior players who make up the core of this team,” he said.

The North-South clash will kick-off at 18:15, with Western Province Women up against Boland Women in the curtain-raiser at 15:00. Both games will be televised live on SuperSport.

“Believe you me‚ the next four games I can’t see AmaZulu losing those four games‚” said McCarthy, as quoted by Sowetan.

“So CAF Champions League – we will be playing CAF Champions League [next season]‚ so that brings new challenges.

“With new challenges we can’t just expect to bring a whole new team in because the players that work for us have done their duty for the club. We now have to look and scout and see which three‚ four‚ five players we can bring in and make what we already have better.

“That’s how it works – it’s not that we’re going to make wholesome changes. We’re not that type of team that goes and recruit a new team for the new challenges.

“We work with what we have – for the players that got us there it will be a reward for their hard work. You can’t up and get rid of them.

“But there will be a few new faces that will come in and assist the good team that we already have so we can be ready and competitive for Caf Champions League.”
