Shreyas Iyer Feels IPL 2020 Will Be His Most Challenging Assignment As Captain

Shreyas Iyer who has played 18 ODIs and 22 T20Is for India since 2017 now has a challenging task ahead of him. Shreyas Iyer who hails from Mumbai believes that the new season on the IPL is going to be a daunting challenge amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. He also mentioned that this season the players would be motivated to give their best for the fans who will be absent from the stadiums.

“It’s certainly very very different from the last season but challenges excite me. And as a captain it is certainly going to be one of my most important assignments, just because of how different the setting is. It’s going to be a different IPL no doubt. And we will be without our fans in the stadium. But I think, that only makes us extra motivated to do this for them, the fans,” Iyer said, as seen on the video posted by the official twitter handle of the Indian Premier League.

Shreyas Iyer who is a vital member of Delhi Capitals squad from 2015 and led the team to playoffs in 2019 for the first time in seven years. He has played in 62 matches and has scored 1681 runs averaging 30.56.

Shreyas Iyer And Ricky Ponting To Find Right Combination

The Delhi Capitals franchise team management has made sure that he has enough experienced players around him to guide him. Along with head coach Ricky Ponting, he would find help right combination in the team with the inclusions of veterans Ravichandran Ashwin and Ajinkya Rahane. They have drafted in Daniel Sams for Jason Roy who will miss citing personal reasons.

Deepak Chahar who is 28 was the first cricketer to take a hat-trick in a T20I has played only 3 ODIs and 10 T20Is but has also featured in 34 IPL matches where he has taken 33 wickets averaging 26.52. Rahul Chahar who is of 21 years age has featured in only 1 T20I but has played 16 IPL matches where he has taken 15 wickets averaging 24.4. While Deepak Chahar is a pacer, Rahul Chahar is a spinner.
