Spurs did ‘amazing job’- Nuno reacts to victory over Newcastle

Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo has admitted his side did well to comeback after an early set back as they beat Newcastle 3-2.

Newcastle, playing in front of their new owners for the first time, sprung into life as the returning Callum Wilson headed home after just two minutes.

However, well-taken goals from A serious medial incident in the crowd saw the game be suspended. Reports suggest that the fan is a stable condition.

Now, Nuno has revealed his pride in seeing his team come back in a raucous atmosphere to earn the three points. Speaking to BBC MOTD, the Spurs manager said: “It did not start very well, we expected Newcastle to come strong but reacted very well. Then they stopped because of the fan and I have the info that he is OK.

“We knew we had to ignore the noise and do our job. We did not start well but did an amazing job after. Really proud of them.

“I would like to score more, the boys also but Newcastle are a good team with good defenders.

“When the news come and (Covid) results come, it is big confusion but it was false positives. It was a disruption in preparation but we could adapt and the result is here.

“We have to focus on Thursday now, playing away from home with a lot of travelling and that requires and extra effort from us.”

Kane’s goal was his first in the Premier League this season and Nuno explained how positive that is for the club.

“It is good for us, good for Harry. What he does for us goes beyond the goals he scores for us.”

The forward himself praised the medical team for their quick reaction to the incident and wished the fans all the best.

“Firstly we want to say best wishes to the guy in the stands, it was not a good sight to see. We hear that he might be stable now, so we’re thankful to the medical teams and the fans who were doing the CPR.

“Hopefully he’s OK and we wish him all the best from all the players at Tottenham.

Bruce criticises defensive showing, vows to ‘carry on’ until told not to

Steve Bruce has criticised his Newcastle sides defensive display after their 3-2 loss at home to Tottenham, the first game in front of the clubs new owners.

a game that was marred by serious medical incident in the crowd.

Goals from Tanguy Ndombele, Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son cancelled out Callum Wilson’s opener and Eric Dier’s late own goal as Newcastle failed to earn their first win of the season.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Bruce revealed what is letting the side down.

“We were beaten by the better team after a wonderful start.

“Problems that we’ve had for a while now defensively were there for all to see unfortunately.

“We’ve started a few games like that, we’ve got off to a good start and scored, got our noses in front, unfortunately we’re not able to defend well enough as a team.

“From front to back at the moment, we’re not defending well enough. We’ve tried to change, to be more on the front-foot if that’s the right word you say these days, but it’s difficult because you get yourself having to score three goals to win a match.”

Bruce also praised the clubs supporters, medical staff and players after the incident that saw the game temporarily suspended in the first half.

“Everybody in the ground deserves credit. I hear the man is okay, thankfully, so it puts things in to perspective a little bit.

“It looks like good news, so I’m delighted for his family.”

There has been a lot of speculation surrounding Steve Bruce’s tenure at the club since the recent takeover of the club and it appears likely that this could be managers last game in charge of the north-east club.

When asked if he will remain in his current post, Bruce admitted: “That is for other people to decide. Ever since I have walked into this club of ours it is difficult. I knew how difficult it was going to be with the frustrations. I will carry on as best I can until I hear otherwise.

“The owners have conducted themselves respectfully since they came in. As long as I hear otherwise, I will go into work tomorrow.”
