One great thing about poker is that there are so few moves to make. Once you have the rhythm of the game down, you should be able to play fine – right? Wrong! Though you now know how to play poker, you have to start watching for some of the most common poker mistakes out there that you could make.

Playing Too Many Hands

Poker is a game with enforced betting through the blinds. While you have to place chips on the table when you are one of the blinds, this is not mandatory at other times. You can simply fold and hand your cards back to the dealer.

Playing too many hands means that you are going to run the risk of burning through your chips. You need to make sure that you learn when the best time for you to strike out might be, as it could not be as often as you think.

Getting Committed

Many beginners make the mistake of thinking that you have to ride it out from the moment your chips hit the table in a check or raise. Whether you are playing on an online platform like GGPoker or you are sitting down to play in a local poker room, it can be easier than you think to get fixated on cards.

So you have been dealt pocket Aces, but as the turns go on, you realise that it is very obvious that you have nothing but this one pair, and other players probably have better. Even with Aces, it is very easy to beat a single pair after all! A big part of poker can be knowing when it is best to fold, so you need to make sure that you recognise this and bow out gracefully.

Playing Too Few Hands

Right up there with playing too many hands will always be playing too few. Though you might want to take a more reserved approach and only bet when you have to, this could result in you missing out on the chance to swoop in and grab a pot.

Imagine you have committed to only betting when you have one of the blinds, and then on another turn you are dealt pocket Aces. Are you really going to fold when you have been dealt the best starting hand in the game? Of course not! You need to make sure that you understand the balance of when and where you should make your plays.

Not Playing a Strategy

New players will go in without a strategy and just bet how they feel. If you want to progress beyond this and begin to improve your skills as a player, you need to make sure that you have a strategy to follow when you sit down to play.

Start by looking at what some of the pros are doing, and see if you can emulate them in certain ways. You should then be able to begin to develop your own playstyle, and with it a strategy that works for you.

Too High Bets

It can be really exciting to sit down to a no-limit game, but they can also get away from you quickly. You need to make sure that you are making bets of the correct size for each round.

Beginners can often get a little over-excited and can jump in with the high and heavy bets too soon. You should not be raising to 5x the blinds in the first hand. All you are going to do there is burn out your chips.

Bear these in mind next time you play. Hopefully, these tips will help you become a much better player!

Good news for anyone who loves a bold look.

Celebrity Makeup Artists Just Told Me This Winter's Biggest Trends

Winter means many things—another season of fabulous coats to add to your closet, drinking your favorite warm beverages, and cozying up in front of a fireplace. If you love makeup like I do, it also means a season filled with fun and daring makeup trends. Winter makeup is full of opportunities, whether you want to try a bold lip for your company's holiday party, a blush-forward look for your friend group's white elephant exchange, or a sparkly smoky eye for New Year's Eve.

This winter is all about bringing back the '90s and Y2K trends, according to celebrity makeup artist Renée Loiz, founder of Color May Vary. I talked to Loiz and celebrity makeup artist Jen Tioseco, who gave me the inside scoop on all things winter makeup. Read on to find out the trends and start re-creating them before everyone else.

"I definitely think we're going to see a lot of draped blush this winter," says Tioseco. "The technique of putting your blush on your cheeks and temples isn't new in the editorial world, but it's a fun one to welcome to mainstream beauty."

"Rich metallic washes of color on the lids for a subtle yet playful shimmer. I'm especially into a silver wash for a cool icy effect. Pat Mcgrath Mothership palettes are my go-to for these types of looks," Tioseco says.

"Burgundy will be making its usual appearance this winter," Tioseco predicts. "There's nothing I love more than a bold statement lip to stand out at a Christmas party! Chanel's Rouge Coco Flash in the color Noir Modern is impactful yet has a hydrating finish."

"It's still all about the eyes and clean, fresh skin, especially since we're still having to wear masks. We can still bring a lot of focus to the eyes and have fun with different shades, textures, and shapes. [Try] glitter shadows or eyeliners and stick on pearls and crystals to accent eyes," says Loiz.

Experimentation will be big this winter. "The 2000s are still making a heavy comeback, so expect to see some frosty blue shadows," says Tioseco.

If gloss isn't your thing, swing in the other direction and try bold matte lips. "The matte '90s lip, but modernized with satin-matte lipsticks with cranberry, plum, blackberry, and burgundy shades" will be big, says Loiz.

Grunge is having a bit of a renaissance right now. To include the rock-star trend in your makeup routine, Tioseco recommends going for "angsty grunge eyeliner paired with barely there skin."

Remember coating your lips with Lancôme Juicy Tubes before going anywhere? You might want to stock up on gloss again. Ultra-glossy lips will be everywhere this winter.

Brows are still the star of the show, but this season, opt for more of a natural take on your arches. Loiz says you can expect to see a lot of "full and fluffy brows, not overly drawn brows." Brow pencils and brow gel will be your best friends.

Loiz explains that this season, we will see "soft, romantic shades of blush to keep skin looking fresh and healthy" and "touches of creamy highlighter pressed into cheekbones to add dimension." Go for shades that enhance your skin's natural glow to look effortless.
