‘The Green Knight’ Character Posters Continue To Get Us Excited For This Fantasy Film

One of my most-anticipated movies of the year is The Green Knight, the fantasy film from director David Lowery starring Dev PatelThe Green Knight was originally intended to hit theaters last year, but the pandemic got in the way. Rather than dropping the film on VOD, A24 held out, and now they’re gearing up to finally release the film in theaters this July. Which means it’s time to start marketing the film again! As a result, a slew of Green Knight character posters have arrived, and you can check them out below.

First, let’s start with the original Green Knight poster, which arrived last year and depicted Dev Patel’s main character, Sir Gawain.

Now let’s look at the new posters, all done in the same style.

Here’s a fur-clad Joel Edgerton, playing a character known only as “Lord” on IMDb/Wikipedia. It’s possible he has a character name, but for now, we don’t know it. Just look upon his fur. As for the “one year hence” tagline, I’m not entirely sure what that means – unless they’re deliberately commenting on the fact that it’s been a year since they were supposed to originally release this movie.

Here’s Alicia Vikander and her very big hair as Lady / Esel.

Next we have Sarita Choudhuryki as a character called Mother. Is she Gawain’s mother? Probably! Is she blind? Maybe! It’s all very mysterious and I can’t wait to learn more.

This is the Green Knight himself, as played by Ralph Ineson.

And of course, I saved the best for last. I don’t know this fox’s name, but I very much want to pet him. And all I ask is that he survives the film. Don’t kill the fox, Green Knight. Please.

Here’s the Green Knight synopsis:

An epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend, The Green Knight tells the story of Sir Gawain (Dev Patel), King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger. From visionary filmmaker David Lowery comes a fresh and bold spin on a classic tale from the knights of the round table.

The Green Knight arrives on July 30, 2021.

Sam & Bucky’s Warehouse Fight With John Walker Happened Last Minute

The fight between John Walker and Sam & Bucky is a major climax of Falcon & The Winter Soldier, but the scene actually came together last-minute.

One of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s most important action scenes is the battle between Sam and Bucky and John Walker, which apparently came together very last-minute. The MCU series finished its six-episode run on April 23 and received generally positive reviews, though some criticisms have been leveled at the show’s inconsistent pacing and mixed thematic messaging. Overall though, Marvel fans seem to be happy with the end product.

The tension between new Captain America, John Walker, and Sam and Bucky is one of the main emotional arcs of the series, and it comes to a head at the beginning of episode 5, after Walker brutally murders an unarmed member of the Flag-Smashers. The two former Avengers confront Walker in a warehouse and ask him to hand the shield over and turn himself in. Walker refuses, starting a fight that ends with Sam’s wingsuit destroyed, Walker defeated, and the shield back in Sam’s possession.

Though the warehouse battle is a major moment in Falcon & the Winter Soldier’s story, it came together pretty last-minute. Speaking with IndieWire, cinematographer P.J. Dillon discussed the particular challenges of filming the scene, which he said was his action sequence to shoot. “That was funny because of various location problems in Atlanta that we had. Dillon said. He then elaborated:

We found the [warehouse] location for that sequence only a couple of days before we shot it. So it wasn’t as well prepped, but the stunt team had to find the moves and clearly define the fight choreography and how we made that fit into the space. We actually figured it out as we went along.

I knew there was always the potential for those shafts of sunlight to come through from that side of the building at a certain time of day…But there was no guarantee that you’d actually get the sun…Luckily, we got this magical shaft of light coming into space…We immediately dropped everything and put the characters into it and filled it with smoke.

Fortunately, the location provided the perfect venue for Sam to reclaim the iconic shield. Dillon was able to capture the moment just as he’d hoped, with Bucky taking the shield from Walker and returning it to Sam. It’s a particular poignant shot, especially given its symbolism of Sam finally accepting the Captain America legacy. Though the venue was found at the last second, it ended up great for the final cut.

With Sam officially donning the Captain America mantle at the end of the show, the shield will likely continue to feature in the MCU for years to come. A film from showrunner, Malcolm Spellman, starring Anthony Mackie is currently in development for an undisclosed release date down the line. With luck, it can continue the story of Falcon & the Winter Soldier in meaningful ways.
