‘The LEGO Batman Movie’ Sequel Would’ve Focused On Justice League Relationship

The LEGO Batman Movie director Chris McKay recently described the planned sequel as The Godfather: Part II with the Justice League playing a major role.

Some are bold enough to call The LEGO Batman Movie the best of the Dark Knight’s storied film history. The LEGO movie was also successful financially, earning over $300 million at the box office, but the planned sequel remains unlikely. Director Chris McKay recently explained the status of the sequel to Collider:

“Because LEGO has left Warner Brothers and is now over at Universal, there probably won’t be a LEGO Batman sequel, unfortunately. I am so sorry to say that but I don’t think they’ll be making a LEGO Batman 2.”

Chris McKay Offers Update On His ‘Nightwing’ Movie

The first movie featured Superman and the Justice League but focused on the Caped Crusader’s relationship with Robin. According to Chris McKay, the planned sequel would’ve gone deeper into the relationship between Batman and Justice League, Godfather Part II-style:

“Dan (Harmon) and (Michael) Waldron had done a first draft of the script that was really great. It was truly epic… both from an action standpoint and from a story standpoint. The structure was Godfather Part 2… a story about Batman’s relationship to the Justice League (and Superman) now as well as the formative moments of the Justice League (and Batman’s relationship with Superman) then.”

Vin Diesel’s Dom Toretto is leading a quiet life off the grid with Letty and his son, little Brian, but they know that danger always lurks just over their peaceful horizon. This time, that threat will force Dom to confront the sins of his past if he’s going to save those he loves most.
