South African TikTok star Troy Sheperds has finally responded to the outcry around his feminist-slating viral video from February.

TikTok update: Troy Sheperds responds to criticism on anti-feminist video

It took him a while, but Troy Sheperds has finally responded to the roasting he received over the controversial TikTok video he made in February.

The video sparked anger among many South Africans on social media.

THINGS FEMINISTS SAY THAT ‘ANNOY THE HELL OUT OF ME’

Troy Sheperds, who has 1.5 million followers on TikTok, came under fire for the video he created that listed things that feminists did or said that “annoy the hell” out of him.

The video received about 109,700 likes and more than 30,000 comments, and has been shared more than 6,600 times. In it, he said he got annoyed when women said “men are trash”.

#MenAreTrash was a movement that gained momentum in 2017, when South African women tweeted about the worst things that had happened to them at the hands of men. These included rape, gender-based violence, discrimination and more.

That is probably why Troy Sheperds was called out for making out of gender-based violence (GBV), which has been described by President Cyril Ramaphosa as another pandemic in South Africa.

Sheperds said he did not understand what feminists had against white males and toxic masculinity. He said feminists believed women were superior and went into detail about everything about them that irritated him.

TROY SHERPERDS RESPONDS TO THE CRITICISM

In response to the backlash he received, the TikTok star tried to defend himself. He said he had been referring to misuse of the terms he had mentioned in his video. He also said the video was aimed at feminists who did this and not all feminists.

Troy Sheperds also addressed claims he had been joking about gender-based violence.

“And in relation to GBV, I never made jokes about GBV nor did I insinuate anything about GBV. People just took that video, took it out of context and said whatever they said I said. But I didn’t,” he said in his response video.

However, it seems South Africans are not as forgiving as Troy Sheperds might have hoped. His response video has also received its fair share of backlash:
