Kaizer Chiefs latest | Stuart Baxter’s second coming to kick-off with the biggest match in Amakhosi history

Stuart Baxter will begin his second spell with Kaizer Chiefs when they compete in their first-ever CAF Champions League semi-final against Wydad Casablanca on 19 June.

Kaizer Chiefs latest | Stuart Baxter’s second coming to kick-off with the biggest match in Amakhosi history

Stuart Baxter will begin his second spell with Kaizer Chiefs when they compete in their first-ever CAF Champions League semi-final.

Kaizer Chiefs take on Wydad Casablanca on 19 June in what is an historic match for the club.

Baxter’s first game could not be bigger in terms of the history of the club. The fans are also desperate for silverware and bearing scars of a dismal DStv Premiership season.

Chiefs are known as the trophy kings of South Africa but are in the middle of what has been a frustrating six-year drought for Amakhosi fans and players alike.

Chiefs finished in eighth position and only scraped into the final MTN 8 spot on the final day.

This was to the relief of many supporters after they languished in 11th position with two weeks left of the season. If you had told any Amakhosi fan that the Soweto giants would finish eight at the start of the season they would have never believed you.

BAXTER’S SECOND COMING PRESENTS A CHANCE AT ENTERING THE HOLY GRAIL OF CHIEFS FOOTBALL CLUB

Chiefs will be competing in their first-ever CAF Champions League semi-final.

A massive chance for Baxter to put a poor league season behind his side and to start his second spell at the club with what many would deem the biggest victory in the club’s history.

A maiden FINAL IN Africa is what lies in wait for Amakhosi if they manage to beat their Moroccan opponents.

Chiefs managed to achieve this once already, in the group stages, after Bernard Parker’s solo strike secured all three points for the men from Naturena.

Baxter was the last coach to lead Chiefs to silverware back in 2015. He can now become the first coach in the clubs history to lead them to a CAF Champions League final and a potential triumph over the continent’s best.

The newly appointed coach could not have a bigger return match. Baxter won the double in his first season in charge, winning the PSL and Nedbank Cup in the same season.

History beckons for Chiefs and Baxter and they have the whole nation behind them as South Africa’s last team in the competition.

Mamelodi Sundowns were knocked out by defending champions Al Ahly at the hands of their former coach, Pitso Mosimane.
