BUSHBUCKRDGE POLICE OFFICER SHOT IN HIJACKING
According to SAPS spokesperson, Brigadier Leonard Hlathi, the victim – a Police Constable attached to the Bushbuckridge station – was on his way home to get ready for his night shift when a white Toyota Tazz without license plates cut him off on the road in Casteel, Acornhoek.
Three armed men exited the vehicle and headed straight for the officer and dragged him out of his car. The suspects allegedly shot the Constable in the lower body and put him inside the boot of his vehicle.
“The suspects drove with him and later stopped at Shatale Village where they dropped him off in the street,” said Hlathi. The stolen vehicle was later found abandoned in the bushes near Matsikitsane.
“The Constable managed to get help from people and is currently in hospital receiving medical treatment,” said the spokesperson. The police investigation continues.
OFF-DUTY COP HIJACKED NEAR BALFOUR
The security personnel of two car tracking companies and the police apprehended two suspects that allegedly hijacked an off-duty police Constable working in Standerton on Tuesday.
The Constable was reportedly driving his car along the R23 road near the Balfour/Grootvlei intersection “at low sped due to speed bumps” when three heavily armed men suddenly appeared before his vehicle and aimed their weapons at him.
“They then held him hostage and robbed him of his service firearm with ammunition as well as an undisclosed amount of cash, assaulted him and forced him to lie down at the back seat of his vehicle,” said Hlathi.
The suspects also took the Constable’s bank cards, ID and other belongings before dropping him off near Vosloorus.
“The suspects reportedly took out the number plates as well and replaced them with false ones. Moments later, the vehicle was spotted being used by the suspects to tow a silver grey Ford Fiesta sedan which seemed to have had a breakdown. Upon noticing the security forces, one suspect escaped whilst the other two were cornered,” said Hlathi.
Jerry Sifiso Ubisi, 31, and Fannie Sibande, 37, were remanded in custody by the Carolina Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday. Their accomplice is still at large.
