UFC 262 Tweets: Fighters react to Jacare Souza’s broken arm against Andre Muniz

Photo by Josh Hedges/Zuffa LLCFor the second straight UFC pay-per-view event, a fighter suffered a broken bone. This time, it was middleweight veteran Jacare Souza, who had his arm snapped by Andre Muniz on the final fight before the UFC 262 pay-per-view main card. Muniz trapped Souza’s right arm in an armbar as the two hit the canvas, and the arm snapped in sickening fashion as he extended his hips and pulled the limb. The official time of stoppage was 3:59 of round one. Replays including audio capture the moment the arm breaks. It was not for the faint of heart, just as former middleweight champ Chris Weidman’s broken leg turned stomachs at UFC 261 this past month. Ahhhhhh— Belal Muhammad (@bullyb170) May 16, 2021 Ok no more replay— Chito Vera (@chitoveraUFC) May 16, 2021 Broken bones. Ouch ouch ouch #UFC262— Niko Price (@Nikohybridprice) May 16, 2021 Oh man. I can’t watch this. Feel terrible for Jacare— Chris Weidman (@chrisweidman) May 16, 2021 That noise... snap! https://t.co/XHOIfe8jWl— Nik “The Carny” Lentz (@NikLentz) May 16, 2021 It’s very surprising for a BJJ ace like Jacare, to try to stand up in a position like that where his arm is trapped. Maybe we get so good and over confident that we feel we can skip steps to get out of dangerous situations like that one. That cost him big. #UFC262— Aljamain Sterling (@funkmasterMMA) May 16, 2021 Jacare didn’t even flinch... Thats next level insane. #ufc262— Anthony Smith (@lionheartasmith) May 16, 2021 Ouch been there done that https://t.co/TO9Jr5Mrxm— Tim Sylvia (@timsylviamma) May 16, 2021

UFC 262 results: Edson Barboza faceplants Shane Burgos with bizarre delayed knockout in third round

Photo by Josh Hedges/Zuffa LLCEdson Barboza has earned plenty of highlight-reel victories but his latest against Shane Burgos at UFC 262 even had him shocked for a brief moment. After engaging in a war with Shane Burgos for the better part of 10 minutes, Barboza connected with a ferocious right hand that landed flush. Burgos seemed to absorb the shot, but then just a few seconds later, his eyes rolled back and he crashed face first to the canvas. The fight was stopped immediately after Burgos hit the ground in one of the more bizarre finishes in recent memory. The stoppage came at 1:16 in the third round as Barboza picks up his second win in a row in the featherweight division. “I’m very happy,” Barboza said about the win. “Look at me, I think that’s the Fight of the Night. 3-0 at featherweight. I definitely feel more healthy. Guys in featherweight, I’m coming for all you guys.” SHUT IT DOWN @EdsonBarbozaJR just took care of business. #UFC262 pic.twitter.com/T2CzwvcdyR— UFC (@ufc) May 16, 2021 Well known for his leg kicks, Barboza was quick to attack Burgos with a brutal series of shots to the calf that immediately began paying dividends. In return, Burgos began firing a jab right down the middle that popped Barboza in the eye repeatedly, which left the Brazilian with a cut on the side of his face. Burgos was also starting to attack to the body before then going back up top to the head but Barboza quickly countered with a huge spinning wheel kick and a counter hook that rattled the New York native. As the fight continued, Burgos started to put the pressure on Barboza, which didn’t leave the prolific kicker with as much room to work. Still, Barboza continued to find a way to attack the lead leg but Burgos refused to back down while constantly coming back up top with a heavy lead jab. With five minutes remaining, Burgos was more aggressive as he looked to secure the win but that also put him in Barboza’s firing range. As the fighters traded punches, Barboza blasted Burgos with the right hand that wobbled and eventually put him down on the canvas as the fight came to an end. Barboza was a perennial contender in the lightweight division but after knocking off Burgos on Saturday night, he’s quickly climbing the ranks at 145 pounds as he surely seeks to eventually compete for UFC gold in his new home at featherweight.
