The son of Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek has called his son’s imminent move to Man Utd a “dream come true” with the Dutchman set to sign for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men.
Reports on today claimed that Van de Beek had passed a medical ahead of a £40m move to Old Trafford, with personal terms also agreed.
The 23-year-old helped the Amsterdam side reach last year’s Champions League semi-finals and has been linked with a variety of high-profile moves.
And the Netherlands international’s dad, Andre, explains how he chose Man Utd over a number of other clubs.
“This is a dream come true. Our local village is very proud,” Van de Beek Snr said (via the ) from their hometown of Kijkerkerveen.
“It’s the perfect moment for him to make this step to such a beautiful club, but Ajax will always remain in our heart. In principle we are never finished there.
“Ten years of playing there would not have been a punishment, then you wouldn’t have heard Donny either. But at some point it is time to look further.
“A lot of clubs were interested, but Donny took this decision himself.”
On Old Trafford, he added: “We looked around there. It’s beautiful.”
