‘Venom: Let There Be Carnage’ Director Andy Serkis Talks Potential Spider-Man Crossover

Venom: Let There Be Carnage director Andy Serkis has addressed the potential for a crossover with Spider-Man.

Perhaps the most bizarre thing to happen with the Spider-Man franchise is just how Sony has handled the titular character and his relationship with Venom. The character made his full appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man #299 in 1988 and quickly became one of the character’s most popular antagonists. Since Sony acquired the film rights to Spider-Man the studio tried to get the character on the big screen for years with interesting results.

‘Jessica Jones’ Star Krysten Ritter Is Eager To Return To The Marvel Cinematic Universe

The first time we saw a live-action version of Venom was in the 2007 film Spider-Man 3. The character’s inclusion was something that director Sam Raimi did not want in the film and was delegated to a third-act antagonist role as a result. Despite earning nearly $900M at the worldwide box office the film was not well received by fans or critics, particularly due to its portrayal of Venom.

For years after, Sony attempted to get some kind of solo Venom film off the ground. In the end, Sony managed to put together the 2018 film Venom starring Tom Hardy. The film was not well received by critics but managed to earn over $800M at the worldwide box office and spawned the upcoming sequel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage. Oddly enough, this film had nothing to do with the adjacent Tom Holland Spider-Man films which may remain the case for the time being. Director Andy Serkis, however, seems to think that a crossover is inevitable.

Live-Action ‘Marvel Zombies’ Project Reportedly In Development

While speaking to IGN, Venom: Let There Be Carnage director Andy Serkis addressed the possibility of Venom meeting up with Spider-Man in live-action once again. The director seemed to think that it was inevitable but felt it should only happen when the time was right:

“Look, that’s the question on everyone’s lips. They want to know if Venom is gonna meet Spider-Man, but personally, it’s never gonna happen. I’m only joking, of course it’s gonna happen…

Look, it depends when you want to get there, and also, what the appetite is. If people want more Venom stories, then, to jump straight to Spider-Man, you could be missing out on so many great supervillain characters in between now and then. So, in a way, by rushing to it, you might be closing the door.”

Here is the synopsis for Sony’s first Venom film:

The evolution story of Marvel’s most enigmatic, complex and badass character – Venom! Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) is a broken man after he loses everything including his job and fiancée. Just when his life is at its lowest, he becomes host to an alien symbiote which results in extraordinary superpowers – transforming him into Venom. Will these powers be enough for this new lethal protector to defeat great evil forces, especially against the far stronger and more weaponized symbiote rival, Riot?

Directed by Ruben Fleischer from a script written by Jeff Pinkner & Scott Rosenberg and Kelly Marcel, Venom stars Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, Reid Scott, Jenny Slate, Ron Cephas Jones, and Woody Harrelson.

Venom is available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD, while Let There Be Carnage will hit theaters on October 1. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the future of the franchise and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.

Christopher Nolan Chooses Universal Pictures For His World War II Film

Christopher Nolan Chooses Universal Pictures For His World War II Film

Director Christopher Nolan has found a new home with Universal Pictures which will produce his upcoming J. Robert Oppenheimer World War II film.

For the longest time, director Christopher Nolan worked exclusively with Warner Bros. This relationship began all the way back in 2002 with the psychological thriller Insomnia starring Al Pachino and Robin Williams. Afterward, the director would team up with the studio for the highly successful Dark Knight Trilogy, The Prestige, Inception, Interstellar, Dunkirk, and finally Tenet.

Warner Bros. Reportedly Developing ‘Mortal Kombat’ Spin-Offs

The relationship between the director and the studio began to sour over the release of Tenet. What exactly happened isn’t entirely clear but the popular story is that Christopher Nolan was dead set on releasing the film in the summer of 2020 while Covid-19 was still ravaging much of the world while Warner Bros wanted to delay the film. The end result was one of the first major films to be released since nearly the start of the year with a less than impressive box office performance.

An additional strain on the relationship between Warner Bros and Christopher Nolan was the decision by the studio to release all of its films on HBO Max and in theaters simultaneously. Nolan himself was adamantly against this going so far as to call the studio the world’s worst streaming service. Since then the director has apparently been looking for a new studio to call home.

‘The Batman’: Colin Farrell’s Penguin Getting HBO Max Spin-Off Series

Earlier this summer it was reported that Netflix of all companies was courting Christopher Nolan. That deal appears not to have gone through as a new report has indicated that the director’s next film will be at Universal Pictures. The upcoming film will revolve around J. Robert Oppenheimer who is often credited as the creator of the Atomic Bomb. The film currently does not have a release date.

Here is the official synopsis for Christopher Nolan’s latest film, Tenet:

“John David Washington is the new Protagonist in Christopher Nolan’s original sci-fi action spectacle “Tenet.” Armed with only one word—Tenet—and fighting for the survival of the entire world, the Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real time. Not time travel. Inversion.”

Written and directed by Christopher Nolan, Tenet stars John David Washington, Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Clémence Poésy, Michael Caine, Kenneth Branagh, and Himesh Patel. Christopher Nolan also serves as a producer alongside his wife Emma Thomas, with Thomas Hayslip on board as an executive producer.
