Walcott lauds ‘incredible’ ex-Arsenal teammate who made his ‘job easy’

Former Arsenal winger Theo Walcott has reached out to his former teammate Oliver Giroud to tell him that he was an “incredible player to play with”.

Giroud spent five-and-a-half years at the Gunners. They paid a fee of around £10m to sign him from Montpellier.

The Frenchman was underrated during his time at Arsenal. He scored 105 times from his 253 outings for the North Londoners.

During his time at the club, he won the FA Cup on three separate occasions between 2013 and 2017. He joined their London rivals, Chelsea, during the winter transfer window in 2018.

After a successful couple of years at Stamford Bridge, he signed for AC Milan on a free transfer this summer. He has two goals from his three Serie A outings so far this season.

As cited by , Giroud recently appeared on talkSPORT. Walcott texted into the show to tell his former teammate that he made his “job easy” at :

“Incredible player to play with, he made my job easy,” said Walcott.

Giroud responded by saying: “I felt that we had such good times together at Arsenal. I wish we could win the league, that’s my only regret from the Premier League, with Arsenal and Chelsea.

“I really enjoyed playing with him. He is such a top football player and also a great man.

“I think I play football for people to remember me as a good player, but also as a good person. And it’s amazing to meet these kind of people.”

“At the moment I am doing my coaching badges and the club is helping me with them and I am helping some of the Academy kids out as well.

“It is certainly something I enjoy and maybe something to look at in the future but for now I still want to play.

“I feel like I still have a lot to give and something to prove which is why I don’t want to finish playing now and start a coaching career just yet.

“It’s nice to be back seeing some old faces who I spent a lot of my life with.

“Fitness-wise I am getting there and it’s great to be back training with good players and the quality is only going to be beneficial for me moving forward.

“I’m there [at Arsenal] until January and there’s no news on any clubs but hopefully something will come up then.”

Premier League boss flattered by Arsenal links but he’s ‘insanely happy’

Thomas Frank has insisted that he is “insanely happy” at Premier League newcomers Brentford even though he is flattered by reports linking him to Arsenal.

Frank has been Brentford boss since 2018. He stepped in to replace Dean Smith, who left the club to join Aston Villa.

The 47-year-old led them to the Championship play-off final in 2018/19. They missed out on promotion to the Premier League as Fulham beat them at Wembley.

The Bees made this right last season as they got the better of Swansea City to earn promotion via the play-offs.

Brentford have made a strong start to the new Premier League season. They have three wins, three draws and just one defeat.

This start leaves them seventh in the Premier League after seven games. reported last month that were interested in Frank should they decide to part with .

Frank has told Danish outlet that despite these reports, he is “insanely happy” at Brentford:

“So, I understand that well, but… Arsenal and Man United. Wasn’t that how it was? I think I read that at some point,” Frank said.

“It’s very nice, but one thing is rumours, and the other is if they really wanted to contact me. Then we have to take it from there.

“I have a contact until 2023. I’m insanely happy at Brentford. [They are a] club that means a lot to me and where I have had great times.

“I enjoy working with our director of football, owners, players, staff and fans.

“It’s the club who must come to me, but now we must see what the future brings. I know we have a mutual respect and a good relationship with each other on that.”

“Arsenal are not going to be in the top four this season, they’re competing for fifth and sixth.

“They’re still in the hunt alongside Everton, West Ham, Spurs. West Ham are flying at the moment. I’ve had a bet that Arsenal will finish above both West Ham and Spurs.

“I think they’ll have a good season and I think you have to give Mikel Arteta time.

“It’s a situation where they’ve got to keep investing, they’ve invested a lot of money in the summer, whether it’s the right investment [remains to be seen]. I think the back four will be very important.

“I was with [former Arsenal manager] George Graham yesterday. If this Arsenal team can get that back four right like it was in his era, get the goalkeeper right. If you can keep the current back four fit and keep it solid. He might have a chance this year, Arteta.”
