Arsenal fans were left calling for VAR after Joe Willock’s ‘goal’ wasn’t given during their 2-1 defeat against Chelsea on Sunday.

Willock is currently on the fringes of the Arsenal squad but enjoyed a productive loan spell at Newcastle last season.

The young forward scored eight Premier League goals for the Magpies, netting in his last seven appearances for the club.

Rooney ‘confident’ of making new Derby signings next week

Derby County manager Wayne Rooney says he’s ‘confident’ that new players will be brought to the club early next week.

The Rams have been affected by a transfer embargo, which prevented them from making any signings until July 20.

currently has just seven outfield players available, with the Championship season fast approaching.



Derby start their campaign against Huddersfield on Saturday August 7, before they take on Salford City in the Carabao Cup three days later.

Their pre-season camp has been worsened by an injury to 20-year-old midfielder Jason Knight, which was caused by Rooney in training.

The Republic of Ireland international is expected to be out for at least three months.

Rooney’s latest comments suggest that the rules over their embargo could soon be eased.

“I am confident that within the next 48 hours we will bring players in,” he said ().

“It is probably the first time I have been confident that players will come in.”

When asked how many players would be signed, Rooney added: “I would like as many as possible.

“We just have to focus, there is still a little bit of work to be done, but I am confident we will see some new faces this week.”

The 35-year-old was speaking after his team’s 2-0 friendly victory over Notts County.

Goals from Eiran Cashin and Tom Lawrence gave them the win at Meadow Lane.

Former Blackpool boss Ian Holloway believes Rooney is ‘very lucky’ not to have been sacked after he was pictured asleep in a hotel room surrounded by women.

Speaking to talkSPORT, : “His career was absolutely sensational and I think the game needs his brain in it, adding to the game.

“But as a leader you need to do things that will help people want to follow you, and he’s got to realise that right now that job carries a huge responsibility.

“At this moment in time he is very, very lucky they [Derby] are putting up with that.

“It’s a whole new ball game for Wayne and I hope he gets it right, I sincerely hope he gets it right.

“But I think he needs to take a step back and have a right good look at himself.”
