Derby County manager Wayne Rooney says he’s ‘confident’ that new players will be brought to the club early next week.
The Rams have been affected by a transfer embargo, which prevented them from making any signings until July 20.
currently has just seven outfield players available, with the Championship season fast approaching.
Derby start their campaign against Huddersfield on Saturday August 7, before they take on Salford City in the Carabao Cup three days later.
Their pre-season camp has been worsened by an injury to 20-year-old midfielder Jason Knight, which was caused by Rooney in training.
The Republic of Ireland international is expected to be out for at least three months.
Rooney’s latest comments suggest that the rules over their embargo could soon be eased.
“I am confident that within the next 48 hours we will bring players in,” he said ().
“It is probably the first time I have been confident that players will come in.”
When asked how many players would be signed, Rooney added: “I would like as many as possible.
“We just have to focus, there is still a little bit of work to be done, but I am confident we will see some new faces this week.”
The 35-year-old was speaking after his team’s 2-0 friendly victory over Notts County.
Goals from Eiran Cashin and Tom Lawrence gave them the win at Meadow Lane.

“At this moment in time he is very, very lucky they [Derby] are putting up with that.
“It’s a whole new ball game for Wayne and I hope he gets it right, I sincerely hope he gets it right.
“But I think he needs to take a step back and have a right good look at himself.”
