KwaZulu-Natal’s Zakithi Nene won the men’s 400m title on Day 3 of the ASA Senior Track and Field Championships in Tshwane on Saturday.

The 23-year-old Zakithi Nene crossed the line in a time of 45.54.

Daryll Lottering of Eastern Province took second in 46.11 with Central Northwest’s Pieter Conradie in third (46.29).

Although he is competing at this weekend’s championships, Wayde van Niekerk, the world record holder in the event did not enter the 400m.

Van Niekerk ran 43.03 to win gold and break the world record at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Meanwhile, the women’s 400m was won by Deline Mpiti in 52.78.
